BOWIE DAVID BUDDHA OF SUBURBIA Review: Should be counted among studio albums and a great one at that. I recommend. - This being released around the same time as Black Tie White Noise, it makes an interesting link between that and Outside. Black Tie in my opinion was mostly a pop sounding record with some hints of jazz. Where Outside (perhaps his most original album along with Blackstar) is much less pop and a lot more jazz and something total new. Buddha of Suburbia is very much a perfect blend of pop and jazz right down the middle. Every song is really good. It has a bunch of original songs recorded in a studio and should be considered another studio album. This has a slightly less "produced" sounding version of Strangers When We Meet that is different then the version on Outside as well. So all in all, this is another Bowie album worth owning due to it being yet another Bowie album filled with great original material. Review: Bowie Esoterica - Everything Bowie recorded was fairly easy to relate to. After only one listen, it's nearly impossible to say anything coherent On a second listen, I almost always discover something I missed first time around. So, I never count Bowie out, and neither should you! "The Buddha of Suburbia" lives in the space where Fripp & Eno have gone to experiment. Thanks!

The Buddah of Suburbia is a good get
If you are a huge Bowie fan as I am this cd is a must for your collection. I failed to get it when it was released in the late 1990's. I was overjoyed when I found it on Amazon. It is an underrated cd.

Grand Showing By Bowie
This CD became of interest to me some years ago when I chanced to hear "Strangers When We Meet", the sixth track on this offering, on WXRV, a local independent FM station serving the Boston area. This particular tune stuck with me over the years prompting the purchase all these years later. Don't delay as I did as this is one of those rare discs that offers great listening from start to finish. A wonderful listen.

Another great mid-career Bowie alblum
Another great mid-career Bowie alblum. I lost touch with Mr Bowie's music sometime after "Let's Dance" and "Tonight". But when he released "Blackstar" it was so good I decided to check all his CDs. I was glad I did because so many, like this one and "Outside", "Reality" and "Earthlings" are all top-notch. There's never been any one like David Bowie!

Major Bowie album
One of the Bowie albums which should be included in his major albums. With the single exception of the song "Religion and the Church", which just seems to be kind of obvious and pointless. I've set ITunes to omit that one, and having done so the album plays really well. I've played it about 15 times since I got it 2 weeks ago. I'm a long time Bowie fan, and I was happy to see he was still doing major music in a time I thought he's sort of dried out.

which is one of Bowie's best songs from this period
Worth it for the opening track, which is one of Bowie's best songs from this period. I had originally bought this at the time it came out, and noticed that the cover photo is sepia toned on this version, as opposed to the black and white(with blue details) from the first issue. The music is of course amazing.

Three Stars
I love Bowie, but this album is elevator music at best. His 80's stuff was better.

Un album souvent sous estimé ... à tort

Following the great man's demise, I thought I ought to check out some of his later (i.e. post - Scary Monsters) work. This album stands out amongst a lot of junk. It is brilliant and really is an overlooked gem when it comes to talk of his best work. It's the only post - 70s album I would rank alongside his greatest, early work. Apart from the title track, which was used in the dimly remembered TV series, I think, it is nothing to do with a soundtrack album (which is how it was marketed). The superbly flowing, evocative sounds and meaningful lyrics produce a beautiful seamless whole. Some albums just magically hang together, just right and perfect. This is one. As always a broad stroke of humour, too - reprising some lyrics from Hunky Dory and giving a good Marc Bolan impression in there, too. He retired after Heathen for a good reason - he had nothing else to give. It would have been better if he'd not been tempted back. For me BoS is his last great album.

Put simply, this little-known gem is another example of Bowie's brilliance. I loved the album, and it has become part of my regular playlist. And no, I'm not being lenient because he had passed away so sadly and suddenly - this really is a terrific album. I thought there was really only one weak song, and at that, it would have been a strong song on almost anyone else's effort. Surely you can't resist this?
