Controlling motors with Node-Red
I got this board to experiment with motor control. It does the job well and is easy to control from my Raspberry Pi R1.

Great for tinkering
No reason to have to use a separate arduino board alongside the pi, this does a lot of what you need to control an environment aware robot.
