Plantronics Calisto-Pro Bluetooth Headset with USB Bluetooth Adapter

The Plantonics Calisto-Pro, Bluetooth headset is the only one I have found that works well for me. I have owned three other headset units, each a different, major brand. Not one of them functioned as well in all-round use. This item really does work in windy situations, which I find myself in quite often. It is loud and clear enough for me to hear with a marked hearing disorder. And, it functions very will in use with my Dragon Natural Speak 11.5. This is a pretty good Bluetooth headset but the audio quality definitely wasn't as good as my wired headset plus USB soundcard in terms of accuracy for Dragon NaturallySpeaking. Instead of getting my normal 95% accuracy or better it was sometimes as low as 80% accuracy. And listening to the sound recordings from the Bluetooth headset there was also more background hiss and the audio also sounded slightly more distorted (which I might never have noticed except that I then immediately compared it with my wired microphone).

I'm not happy with how this product is working with Windows 10 and I am not happy with the way in which the tech support don't seem to know how to fix it. I called Plantronics and after an hour I was told to wait for the Windows 10 update. I called Windows 10 tech support and the guy was able to get it to work without installing any update or anything. Later, it stopped working again: Dragon NaturallySpeaking just hangs and doesn't respond. It works with Cortana and then when I switched to the voice recognition software again nothing worked anymore. It worked well on the previous windows version but this is not good enough guys. I now use a cheap webcam mic and everything is working fine.

I've gone through four different headsets since starting to use Dragon Naturally Speaking instead of typing for all my computer-based work. The very best headset was a wired Plantronics - high level of sensitivity, reliable - and this new bluetooth headset is not as reliable but works well most of the time. The most annoying feature is its tendency to disconnect from the adapter at odd times. When this occurs you hear a voice saying "disconnected" and when the connection is reestablished saying "connected". It is totally unclear why it disconnects - the headset is never more than 5 feet away from the adapter. If there's a way to eliminate this, I'd like to know. If eliminated, the rating would be higher.

The product itself works great on both my Macintosh and iPhone six. That said, the software BUNDLED AND PROMOTED TO WORK WITH THIS for the Mac is unusable. I use this for Dragon Dictate and it is OK. BUT - The POINT OF THIS HEADSET IS COMPATIBILITY WITH MAC AND CELL PHONE AND SWITCHING BACK AND FORTH SEAMLESSLY. This is bluetooth and usb - bluetooth for mobile phone and usb to computer. The software that comes with this headset does not even recognize the Macintosh despite the fact that it installs properly. Plantronics has always favored the PC World. Mac users buy products as well. And, Mac users need to help other Mac users when a company is failing the MacWorld. Pick a different headset where the company spent the time and money to properly develop software that does what the description of the product tells you it will do for a Mac user.

The Plantronics Headset arrived on schedule and is exactly as advertised - and more. I use it primarily with voice recognition software - so microphone quality must be top notch. Once set up on my computer - which was simple - the microphone performance really delivered. The earpiece speaker is a little tiney - but that's not important for my intended use. I do use it as a phone headset sometimes also and in that app it does OK. Primarily, the VR app runs smoothly - much better than with the previous mic. A single charge runs all day (8-10 hours) and the ear comfort is just fine. I forget it's on sometimes. Good headset - thought it would work with a Mac and Dragon Dictate 4... spotty at best, other than that it is a great headset so I gave it a 4.

I've always been a big fan of Plantronics. Excellent sound quality, and I've used their products in business settings for most of my career. The last two products, however, (both bluetooth devices) did not pan out. Equipment failure. Less than a month after buying this device, it just stopped working... no power. Returning under warranty. I'm really hoping it was a fluke, but it's a such a PIA to buy something at a good-size investment and then be rendered helpless when you really depend on it on a daily basis.
