What's this then Ted?
A box set you say. Ah right then. What's a box set then Ted? Is is a set of boxes for keeping inside each other? Oh I see - it's a set of DVDs stored in a box. Right, got ye now. What's on the DVDs Ted? Comedy programmes about three priests who live in the parochial house on Craggy Island with their mad housekeeper? I can't see that catching on Ted - it all sounds a bit silly to me. What are the priests like Ted? One is an alcoholic whose catch phrases include "drink", "knicker" and "girls". One is a bit slow on the uptake and likes being a priest but doesn't go in for all that god bit. The other one dreams of a better life, but puts up with the madness around him, all the time trying to avoid questions about funds which had been resting in his account. They don't sound like real priests to me Ted, but what do I know? I expect the housekeeper is very straightlaced Ted. What's that Ted? She makes a lot of tea and sandwiches and encourages people to drink and eat by wearing them down with her catch phrase of "go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on"? Doesn't sound like any housekeeper I've ever met Ted. Are there nuns in it Ted? Ah right, there are. Well I might not watch it, because nuns make me tongue tied. They are women Ted. And I'm a man. And a priest. So, I'm not meant to be with women. I might just go up to me bed, and slip in under my power rangers duvet cover Ted. Hopefully I'll have the dream where I'm on Blockbusters again Ted. Well I'll leave you to it Ted. You should buy it. It really is very clever Ted. My favourite character has to be Father Dougal, but each to his own Ted. Go on, go on. You'd be better buying it Ted. If ye don't you'll end up like Bishop Brennan, and some might kick you up the.... Ah sorry Ted, Go to go now. I've got my milk round to do.

Crilly Island, not Craggy Island
You only need to see the amount of 5 stars given from the other 33 reviews that just show how much loved this series is/was. The reaction to the sad loss of Dermot Morgan sums up the huge popularity of the programme and it's characters.Though the navigation has been criticised from other reviewers and I guess it's a small irritation, that's all it is. The fact that the contents of the discs make up for it make you forget about that glitch. The characters are so varied but bounce off each other so well. From the marvellous Ted, the litle-boy-lost Dougal, cantankerous Jack and neurotic Mrs Doyle - as well as all of the other minor charachters such as Fathers Dick Burn, Noel Furlong and Larry Duff, milkman Pat Mustard, the O'Learys from the shop and several others, no other series can offer such a rich & great cast.Speed 3 is without doubt the best & funniest episode - a milk float that can't go under 4 miles per hour!! Also wonderful are Grant Upon Him Eternal Rest, The Mainland and Hell.I still laugh when I think of in Speed 3, Dougal is secretly listening to Pat Mustard with his earphones & gets knocked out by the sound of a passing lorry. And when Jack is in a pub after an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting (see why he was in there!!) and one of the attendees spots him drinking, tries to sop him and as he's about to finish his sentence a clip of an ambulance at full pelt appears!!I could go on all day but I won't spoil it for others, suffice to say buy it and watch it asap!!!

God Bless Father Ted!! Excellent!!
This definitely has to be one of the best sit coms of all time. Featuring the long-suffering Father Ted, the hapless Father Dougal Maguire, Father Jack Hacket, who likes the odd drink and good old housekeeper Mrs Doyle, who seems to do everything from tea making to roof repairs.Together they all live in the parochial house on the godforsaken island of Craggy Island, a place populated by many eccentrics where the only place of interest is 'The Holy Stone of Clonrichert' basically a stone on a pedestal. The box set contains 4 disksDisk 1: The 6 episode from series 1Disk 2: 5 episodes from series 2 and 'A Christmassy Ted'Disk 3: Contains the remaining 5 episodes of series 2Disk 4: All 8 episodes from series 3.Each episode is a mixture of side splitting comedy and slapstick humour following the clergy through various improbable and farcical situations. They are kept in check by the hard line Bishop Len Brennan, and occasionally come into competition with the residence of the Rugged Island parochial house Father Dick Burn et al.The humour is light hearted, timeless, original, classic and just pure brilliance, poking fun at irish rural life, priests, the Catholic church and Catholicism in general. This was a hugely successful series and I think the 3rd series is the best of the lot. This is definitely a box set worth owning, brilliant!!!

GREAT ENTERTAINMENT
No more YouTube browsing for little bits of this wonderful show. All in one box! Fantastic stuff especially these days when moronic political correctness ruins all the fun we could have.

Adult viewing only, but great British Comedy.
This is a great British comedy but not for watching with little ones as the language is not the greatest, definitely classed as Adult content only.

*ecking Brilliant Series!
I am a huge fan of British television. I love just about everything from the documentaries to the dramas and comedy. How in the world Father Ted had flown under my radar I do not know. My best friend recommended I watch a couple episodes on YouTube a couple of months ago and I loved it from the first minute! I got on amazon and found a used set of the complete series in the UK and bought it straight away without having even seen most of the series. My favorite amazon purchase yet!I love all four of the main characters as they all bring something special to the series that makes it perfect. Poor Father Ted Crilly is sent to VERY out of the way Craggy Island thanks to church money that was "just resting in his account". That obviously tired money that needed a good rest before moving on into the church accounts follows poor Ted throughout the entire series, seems like. The parish house on Craggy Island is also inhabited by Father Dougal McGuire and Father Jack Hackett. Dougal is young and doesn't quite have a grasp on what it means to be a good priest. His "Blackrock Incident" resulted in many nuns lives being "irreparably damaged" (do we REALLY need all the details on that one??) getting him a one-way ticket to Craggy Island. In the very first episode he questions Ted as to whether they are really supposed to take things such as "heaven and hell and everlasting life" seriously. Poor Dougal isn't the brightest bulb in the package but you can't help but love him anyway. And then there's Father Jack Hackett. He's more ancient than ancient and lives only to watch television and drink. And drink. And drink. And drink. And drink. There's absolutely no question as to why he was sent to Craggy Island. Does he love the women or the drink more? That question is hard to answer! Rounding out the group is Mrs. Doyle. She is the housekeeper for the three priests and she has a serious love of making and serving tea. She is crazy in her own right but she balances out the madness of Ted, Dougal and Jack beautifully. They can often build off her strangeness creating some of the best scenes.I would wager there isn't anyone who loves comedy, particularly British comedy, that can sit down and watch this show and not laugh at every single episode. It's impossible. Whether it is Ted trying to teach Dougal about toy cows being small and the cows outside the window being far away, Jack screaming for his "DRINK!", Mrs. Doyle's less than perfect safety record while doing regular household chores and maintenance or Ted and Dougals song for "Eurosong 96" about their "lovely horse", you will be laughing until you are in tears! You'll even catch yourself adding a few Father Ted phrases and words into your every day language.I'm so glad my friend suggested I watch Father Ted. It just makes him an even better best friend, doesn't it?
