Machete [Blu-ray] [Region Free] [2011]

I love these film so much, there’s so many stars in it and the plot is amazing. Danny Trejo wields a lot of presence and carries the movie.

After watching the Grindhouse double bill, I found that one of the spoof movies that had been trailered in that feature, had in fact later been made into a film itself. And guess what - 'Machete' is actually a bit better if anything than the original two films. Suspend belief, head back to the video store at the end of the street in the early 1980's, and enjoy this ridiculously over the top, so violent it's actually funny, colourful firework of a movie. Lots of special guest stars, and a hero with a face which appears to be actually made entirely of granite. For the price of the Blu-Ray, it's a steal!

This is the kind of film that hits that amazing sweet spot of enjoyment. It knows what it is, the kind of film that is so bad it is good, and it revel’s in the bad-goodness. I don’t know how film makers can do it, because they are treading so close to many a Scary Movie type production, i.e movies that are so bad they’re just bad, but with Machete, Robert Rodriguez and co manage to tread the line perfectly and avoid the ‘so bad it’s bad’ label completely.The tone of Machete is set right from the opening scene, with it's fantastical violence and gore similar to the penultimate scene in kill bill vol.1. (When Uma Thurman, as the bride, fights off and ultimately, chops up, the crazy 88) In fact upon seeing the first scene in the film my wife enquired if this was a Quentin Tarantino film, "no my dear" I said "this is grindhouse" but I did go on to explain that Tarrantino is a fan of the style and does emulate it in some of his films. I think it’s a really good thing that a novice saw a Tarrantino-esque stamp on the opening scene, because I could really not think of a higher honor to bestow on a film (apart from maybe asking if it was directed by Spielberg).Unfortunately the pace of the high octane slash fest of the first scene soon dwindles there after, the story does suffer from some pacing issues feeling slow in parts, I feel Machete could have been cut down a little bit more. This is a very slight problem, however, as we are never too far from a preposterous fight scene that sometimes include burritos (yes you heard me).Before watching this film, the lead actor, Danny Trejo, raised some concerns for me, as he isn't generally a lead actor sort of guy. He usually plays supporting rolls as a generic Mexican guy, most notable in recent memory, that guy that got decapitated and had his head take a ride on a tortoises back in breaking bad. But he does really well as Machete, in the same way that Arnold Schwarzenegger does well as The Terminator in “The Terminator” with his quite poker face and his almost wooden acting. Robert De Niro plays the best part I have seen him in probably the last couple of decades (meet the parents being the exception) it is great to see him flexing his acting muscles again. Michelle Rodriguez is great once again, as the bad ass female, a part that she is more than familiar with, at this point I think we can safely say that she is typecast, and I don't even think she minds.Although ridiculous in many ways, machete still manages to fit in a bit of serious real life stuff, the same kind of way that family guy does. Amongst all of the intestine swinging and grass trimmer duelling (I’m not making this up) the story takes a slightly satirical jab at the issue of immigration. It's great how the film manages to poke fun at the stupidity of society without getting preachy at all.The only way to describe machete is, its a bloody (literally) good time, you will laugh you will scoff at how ridiculous it all is, but you will enjoy it. Think of it as the same kind of fun you would have watching Expendables 2 or Snakes on a Plane, only somehow this film manages to put a message of political morality in there as well, amazing.At the end of the Machete slashing fest we are promised that machete will return in Machete Kills, and I for one, look forward to it, it will be at the very least, interesting.

This is only the second film I have on blu-ray and am yet to be impressed by the quality difference that ordinary DVD. However the film itself is cleaverly shot and fairly easy to follow storyline, but I feel there were some characters that were just not needed. Robert Rodrigues has made some cracking films including this one but it is a shame it did not do as well at the box office, even with a cast of well knowns. Lindsay Lohan actually delivers a short but good performance in this which I know you fellas out there will like!!! Good all rounder.

One of those films that you love but you don't know why. You know the ones. Flicking through the channels you find a film that's just started and next thing you're hooked. Can't turn it off. Machete is that kind of movie. The body count is into the hundreds, with each death more and more ridiculous.Can't comment on the blu-ray transfer, as with all 'Grindhouse' movies they deliberately have that 'B' movie grainy look. All I can say is if your not looking for Oscar quality and you can watch films with tongue firmly in cheek, buy, buy, buy whatever the format.

véritable parodie de film d'action des années 80, ce film de 2010, petit budget de Robert Rodriguez est issu d'une idée formulée lors du tournage de Desperado, il en a l'odeur pastiche du projet grindhouse tout en gardant une trame scénarisée claire, probablement simpliste, mais par la même facile à suivre. C'est un peu l'esprit série B des années 80, retrouvé jusque dans le bruitage.(écho métallique pour le mime des actions extraordinaires...). Danny trejo incarne Isidoro « Machete » Cortez, ex fédéral mexicain devenu simple journalier de l'autre côté de la frontière, côté Texas. Il se trouve manipulé et trompé par des fripouilles du sénateur véreux John McLaughlin, que joue avec malice et réel plaisir non dissimulé Robert De Niro.Machete a du pain sur la planche pour se venger du complot dont il est victime.LE PUBLIC Visé: plutôt adulte, si l'on considère l'atmosphère gore, et les multiples apparitions de corps féminins dénudés, ( par contre pas de porno soft au contraire de ce j'ai pu lire, les actes sont annoncés mais non suggérés ni montrés); les propos sont assez gras sans trop déraper. c'est donc plutôt un trip de mec préférentiellement amateur d'humour décallé.UN PETIT FILM GRAND HOMMAGE; c'est un petit délice de voir rejouer des stars du petit écran des années 80 comme Don johnson, ou Steven Seagal mis si longtemps au placard. Jeff Fahet est peu être l'homme de transition entre ce monde si lisse de superhéros et de grands méchants d'autrefois et le ciné d'action contemporain. L'apparition des actrices Lindsay Lohan, la pulpeuse Jessica Alba ou encore la rebelle Michelle Rodriguez nourrit l'hommage à cette période: l'affichage de ces miss comme autant de sex symbol déguisés, mis en scène,rappelle les dépliants de page centrale de Playboy. Plusieurs copains de Rodriguez comme Nimrod Antal se "lâchent" : certaines bastons rappellent l'ambiance des confrontation romains/obelix et asterix.le BLURAY; sans bonus, ni fioriture, il permet d'apprécier les détails des scènes pastichées, même si les premières minutes sont assez étranges du fait de la reproduction de l'effet piètre qualité de la pellicule des bobines de cinéma d'exploitation de la période. Mais, une fois le synopsis campé, la manière de filmer redevient assez classique, le son et l'image bluray retrouvent toute leur importance.

Machete is a movie you laugh at. For being so over the top. Don't take it seriously. Action packed with violence! Love it. Viva Machete!!! 👍 👍 👍

Michael Booth, ein Geschäftsmann, erzählt „Machete“, dass der korrupte US-Senator McLaughlin Hunderte von illegalen Einwanderern zurück nach Mexiko schicken will. Er bietet „Machete“ 150.000 US-Dollar, um McLaughlin zu töten. „Machete“ akzeptiert, wird jedoch während des Attentatversuchs von einem Schergen von Booth angeschossen. Es stellt sich heraus, dass Booth das Ganze eingefädelt hat, um McLaughlins harte Anti-Einwanderungspolitik salonfähig zu machen, indem er es so aussehen lässt, als würde ein illegaler Einwanderer ein Attentat auf den Senator verüben.Der verwundete „Machete“ wird in ein Krankenhaus gebracht, kann aber der Verhaftung entkommen. Padre Cortez wird in der Kirche gekreuzigt und getötet. Durch in der Kirche angebrachte Videokameras wird die Tötungsszene mit Booth aufgenommen. Auf einer Pressekonferenz werden John McLaughlin diese Aufnahmen vorgeführt. Er flüchtet mit Booth in seiner Limousine, wo er Booth erschießt. Die Flucht geht weiter in einem Taxi, mit dem er in den Stützpunkt der Bürgerwehr fährt. McLaughlin soll hingerichtet werden, jedoch wird die Exekution von „Machete“ und seinen Männern verhindert. Luz, die in einer vorausgegangenen Szene scheinbar mit einem Schuss ins Auge erschossen wurde, taucht mit einer Augenklappe wieder auf und rettet „Machete“, der von mehreren Leuten festgehalten wird. Luz ermöglicht McLaughlin die Flucht, indem sie ihm rät, sich als Mexikaner zu verkleiden.Am Ende stehen sich „Machete“ und Torrez, der die ganze Geschichte inszenierte, gegenüber. Torrez stirbt, nachdem „Machete“ ihm seine Machete in den Bauch gerammt hat. „Machete“ fährt schließlich mit Agentin Sartana auf dem Motorrad davon, während John McLaughlin als Mexikaner verkleidet von seiner eigenen Bürgerwehr am Grenzzaun mit den Worten „Willkommen in Amerika“ erschossen wird.
