Gallery quality professional prints at home
Brilliant printer. Expensive, but if you want great photo quality over a range of paper types then this is it. I am an amateur photographer but I bought it because I was preparing images for an international print competition. This printer already comes with pre-programmed profiles for a wide range of papers and I was able to experiment in order to select the best paper for my images. Image quality is sharp. It uses a 10 colour ink system and I was surprised to find that the price of a full set of genuine Canon inks was not much more than that of a four colour pack for my old HP printer which is nowhere near the quality of the ImagePROGRAF and only prints to A4. The ink also seems to be lasting quite well. Installation was very simple from the Canon website. You do have to be prepared for it’s larger size and weight but this also means that it is much more sturdily built than cheaper printers. Note that I have given five stars for “touch screen” as the control system but it is actually a scroll though menu system. Five stars still because it is very easy to use.

Wish I'd purchased this printer years ago! Problem solved!!
I've wasted hundreds of £'s in the last few years, having pictures printed by some of the best known picture printing and framing businesses online; I've calibrated my monitor, downloaded all the correct ICC profiles, softproofed my pictures in Lightroom, before submitting my picture to be printed and framed. More often than not, a week or so later, a box would arrive which I would open, only to experience that all-too-familiar sinking feeling when I saw that the picture I had received was either too dark, too bright, lacking resolution, or any number of other colour related issues.I'd pretty much given up on printing my pictures and resigned myself to the fact that maybe my photo's were really just for viewing on screen.Deciding to approach things differently, I decided to give this printer a go - it's not cheap, but I figured that if I could master the art of printing my pictures myself, I'd save a lot of money in the long run.Setting the printer up was super-easy. Once all the inks were installed and the printer had spent a few minutes preparing itself, I hopped into Lightroom and re-proofed a recent picture using the Canon Photo Paper Pro Platinum ICC profile (there were 5 sheets of this paper in the box as a sample).A couple of minutes later, my first picture had been printed and the quality is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING - I've only printed 3 pictures so far and I can't stop looking at them and smiling inside - the quality is way better than anything I've received from a photo lab in the post.I've now sent off for samples of other canon photo papers and will experiment a bit more with different A4 papers, before I decide which A3 paper to go for.Now I'm looking forward to having so many more of my pictures up on the wall and a reliable source of prints at my fingertips - I do love looking at my pictures on screen, but there really is something special about seeing your work on paper.I am primarily a wildlife photographer who has invested many £000's on my camera gear - the £700 I shelled out on this printer feels like the best 'photographic' investment I can remember making.I don't ever really bother with submitting reviews on Amazon, but I feel so happy with this purchase, I felt that I had to!

Excellent photo printer
After reading many reviews I decided to get this for home use as I really like to be able to print my own photos. It is NOT a cheap printer, but can print close to 1 metre long panoramas by 330mm wide.It is heavy (15kg).Ink costs are seriously higher than a small A4 lightweight printer.Don't consider this printer if you are not prepared to put in the effort required to get good prints.Read/watch many reports first. But I love it!Having said that, it IS brilliant!

Absolute game changer for artists
I needed a printer to take my artwork to the next level and it was a minefield researching all the options, which is why I came on here to help fellow artists not make the same mistake I did; my head was turned by an all-in-one because I wanted a scanner aswell as a good printer, so I opted for one that comes well recommended in reviews. What a disappointment! The dye ink just didn’t give the durability needed for art prints and the pictures were fuzzy and dull (my work, on the whole is very vibrant and saturated). It also bleeds when wet, which is no good at all if you’re crafting and need to use PVA. I returned that model and decided to go for this Canon which uses pigment inks, they are more expensive to replace but they are worth the money. Some reviews will tell you that dye inks are more vibrant and quite durable, but you can see from my photo that is not the case - the larger print on the left was done with the Canon and the smaller one on the right with the Epson that I sent back. They were printed on heavy matte fine art inkjet paper. In real life the difference is even more remarkable, I am astounded by the quality this Canon produces. I’ve only had it for a few hours so still playing around with test prints, but I am so happy with it I had to break off to write this review. Every print so far looks just like the original canvas, the textures are so lifelike you have to touch them to check it really is a flat piece of paper! I’ve had to save up long and hard to buy this printer, and I’m going to have to do the same and wait to afford a separate scanner, but I don’t regret my decision, the Canon is a game changer and worth every penny.
