Can I leave it plugged in. It didn't seem to work whilst plugged in. Can the manufacturer comment on this as I have seen opposing answers to this?

When charging, a red light comes on which is bright enough to navigate bedroom etc. This is on continuously and none of the auto switching working

Can this work while it's plugged in? Is it USB C or micro USB?

It is USB C. It would work while being charged. However, it charges very quickly,so there is no need. The charge lasts over a month. Mine has lasted more than two months after charging. I am a extremely happy with this light. It's quite sensitive to motion if you place it in a good location. The angles at which it will turn on are very effective.
