Q: how long does it last before you need to change the batteries?

Over 4 days of camping we took several showers each(and there was 10 of us) and we didn't need to change the batteries.

Q: is the battery housing waterproof?

The housing is water resistant but not waterproof. I place mine in a gallon size freezer bag and zip it closed as far as it will go. Also fold it so the seal points downward, that way even if water splashes on top of the unit it won't get in.

Q: It says battery compartment not waterproof, how long is power cord from battery to the filter you put in the water? It looks very short in photo.

The power cord is 4 ft long. Thank you for your inquiry.

Q: Why is the description stating a water heater while it is not after I purchased

I just checked the Amazon description, technical details and product description and I see no mention of "heat" or "heater". It does say its intended for "cool-water showers". Being familiar with the heated version (and its much higher price $150 - $200), I could tell from the photo that this is a pump only.
