Although this is fairly expensive for what it consists of, it works well and is made from good quality corrosion resistant materials. This was primarily purchased to keep birds from nesting in an occasionally-working chimney, which it has done admirably; as a secondary benefit it also keeps heavy rain or hailstones from bouncing down the chimney onto the hearth. At first glance it looks as though it might block the flow of smoke slightly as there isn't a very large gap but in practice it doesn't appear to have any noticeable effect on the draw in the chimney.

It looks just what I want and it's the same as one that I fitted to my last house which worked well by keeping the damp out of the chimney and allowing the fire to draw. Not fitted it yet as my ladder is too short and "Dave the roofer" is a difficult man to get to call.UPDATEIt's been fitted for long enough now for me to realise that it is doing the trick. No more damp getting into my Ingle nook recess after lots of very heavy rain. Also no difference to draw of chimney and ease of fire lighting has been noticed. Thus I can say that it works well with my (approx 5kW) log burner.

This chimney cowl is very well made and easy to put on even though our chimney is a bit smaller in height than usual it has fitted very well. It is very good value for money and arrived quicker than expected.

Ordered on the Friday received the following Monday.Shinned straight up the ladder and fitted within 10 mins.The unit was easy to assemble and clamped to the chimney very firm.Will certainly stop any more birds dropping in.I think its low enough to keep the rain out but time will tell.
