Hornby R8312 eLink and RailMaster Combination Pack,Black

This is a great product for the price, very capable and very versatile and if you know your way around a laptop then it is the perfect way in to a DCC system without breaking the bank. Installation is quite easy if you follow one of the online guides but for me registration was a pain in that it failed over 10 times and then suddenly went through, very frustrating but ultimately still good value.If you are new to DCC then follow the online guides and the comprehensive instructions and once you know your way round the system it add a whole new dimension to the railway experience.I am sure that in future I will upgrade to a system with a "cab control" device but for now it offers all I could wish for (including mouse control) at what is for DCC a bargain price.I'm not always a Hornby fan but on this and the RailMaster software I think a big Well Done is in order!

So far this has failed to work and as I have a new Windows 8.2 PC I had expected a "Plug and Play" product. I have contacted Hornby and I am to press on and try to get it working however It was not unduly expensive so there will eventually a tendency to scrap it - I hope notWould like to add that after a great deal of reading the reams of instructions I have finally got it working with only 8 days to go and I am just beginning to learn how to drive the beast and so far its great

A bit disappointing although it is fairly cheap. Only reads CVs up to 255 so no good for something like a Loksound decoder. Interface is a bit DOS like in that it doesn't quite seem to behave properly as a Windows application (e.g. scrolling with the mouse wheel....doesn't seem to). Things like changing CVs works well.....as long as you don't want to edit a CV over 255. In summary, generally OK but could so easily be a lot better. I suppose you could say that it is typical Hornby in that it doesn't quite deliver on the promise.

Quite difficult to set up but when working is really good

Very poor after care service, no direct line only e-mail which they take ages to respond to if at all. Easy to use once installed. Only single use operation for program!

Interesting take on the DCC principle. Saves messing about with various ietms of equipment as per the various US systems - also much cheaper!

Great piece of kit especially run in tandem with RailMaster.
