Chess Pieces - Plastic, Standard Size, Weighted Chessmen

Just a quick review to agree with others who gave it five stars. Go in with the proper expectations and you will be satisfied. These pieces are for playing chess. Notice I said "playing". They are not works of beauty, although in my opinion they perfectly capture that certain Soviet/Iron curtain aesthetic perfectly. I played with a somewhat similar set back in the early eighties when I was stationed in West Germany as an East German military intelligence analyst. I like them so much I bought a second set just to have extra queens. Here's the kicker. I also have an Noj Dubrovnik 1950 reproduction set that cost a heck of a lot of money. That being said, I love this set for what it is.

The product is fine for what it is but the set does not come with extra queens which is a pain.

I hesitated to order at first due to the negative reviews. However, I finally did order a set and am very pleased with it. I find the design to be very attractive, my personal favorite even over the Staunton design. The pieces are weighted with sand and are decent in that regard. There are some seams showing but for this price it does not bother me; in fact, I ordered a second set. My only worry is that the set comes in a plastic bag with no other protection other than the shipping box. The pieces are so nice I would hate to see them damaged by shipping.

Horrible return policy. $200 in postage to return!!! Made a mistake purchasing for Xmas gift. No board included! I just threw out my money on this!

Was really looking forward to this set, not sure why the other person gave it such a high rating. My queens and rooks have a lot of excess plastic, shouldn't be like that at all. You really can't trim something like this either for danger of ruining the shape of them. I would recommend to go elsewhere for a set like this, very disappointed and wasted $25...1 other thing I forgot, these are not weighted like the ad said they were, their pretty light compared to normal standard plastic weighted pieces...

This set is not expensive and for your money you get a solid, well designed, nicely colored, heavy (about double weight, I'd say) set of chess pieces. They would be good for an experienced player or an introductory set for the beginner. The pieces fit nicely on a 2.25 board. I especially like the Dubrovnik knight.
