Rachel, devastated by her recent divorce, spends her daily commute fantasising about the seemingly perfect couple who live in a house that her train passes every day, until one morning she sees something shocking happen there and becomes entangled in the mystery that unfolds. The Girl On The Train is a darkly addictive thriller based on the international publishing phenomenon.

Excellent casting results in a very satisfying film
I don't share the disappointment of some people who reviewed this film in a negative way. I think that it is totally unrealistic to expect a film to contain the detail of a long and intricate book. Cuts have to be made and improvisations made to the plot to fit the film into a reasonable time span. Inevitably this process is bound to result in some loss of excitement and tension and for me this was noticeable during the hospital sequence when Lisbeth's vulnerability was much less obvious than in the book. However, I acknowledge the difficulties facing the director in deciding how to condense such a complex plot and in general I support the end result.I think that one of the strengths of the 3 films is the excellent casting of the lead roles and in particular the psychiatrist Teleborian. The actor portrays the character brilliantly and it is very satisfying seeing him get his come-uppance at the denouement. From my perspective I thoroughly enjoyed this film and the 148 minute film passed all too quickly. Personally, I think that the only way to improve this film would be to extend it into a serial for television. I very much doubt that this will happen and personally I am not holding my breath for the Hollywood re-make! For starters this will be without the superb Noomi Rapace.

Great Film!
A Great Film, a superb performance from Emily Blunt as a heartbroken women who witnesses what she believes to be a murder but is not sure about what she has seen owing to her not so "secret" drinking problem! Justin Theroux is also great! The film is based on a very successful book and the film is a great adaptation of the original story!

but I love collecting Dvd & Blu Ray's and I absolutely loved ...
I haven't watched this yet as I'm very time limited on the film front, but I love collecting Dvd & Blu Ray's and I absolutely loved the book. I've seen and read 'The girl with the Dragon tattoo' and absolutely adored both the book and the film. The 'Dragon Tattoo' film does follow the book extremely well and this could well be a reason I enjoyed it so much, because so many films of books are lacking in the depth and often actual storyline when compared with the book.I'm hoping this film is on a par with its relative book in the same way the first film was. If you want a professional review of the film itself then by all means read one of the many online. From me though if this film does live up to the standards of 'Dragon Tattoo' then it would also get 10/10.Packaged well. Arrived quickly and a very decent price too.

A mixed up train journey that got lost along the way...
Haven't read the book, so I can't compare. But in general, you shouldn't anyway... movies are only ever a snapshot of the book, it's not possible to cram an entire book into any one movie. But how else do movies get made - they are mostly taken from books. American Psycho another example? hundreds of others too? this is no different? For me, this movie was a movie of two halves. About half way through, it goes from a decent mystery-suspense thriller to a silly who dunnit caper... and all the initial intensity is lost. The swearing just dumbed down the movie and the real nastiness of the guilty party just turns out to be so lame, that you're left thinking 'is that all his motive really was' - he wasn't getting laid enough, women are rubbish and the usual sexist/chauvinistic superficial clap trap.... that line he says, 'have you ever tried living with a blur' - to describe and later explain his actions and the experience of living with an alcoholic woman who couldn't conceive - so he went elsewhere - then again, cos she was tired... the motives for the actions of the characters is pretty lame... there's no depth in the emotional severity of that part of the movie, it moves on to the next bit, so ok, we've got a guy with an alcoholic ex-wife... and this factualising of every aspect of the movie starts to take hold... and we jump onto the next bit...But you can't start off a movie one way, then finish it another... is this about alcoholism, screwball relationships, murder, society, people's real intentions or what? a combination of all these?... all that seems to get mixed up... the over-lapping sub-plots try to become plots in themselves and we go from having the main character in the film, becoming a minor player by the end, because the plot of the movie has become the main 'character'... and oh, she's not drinking anymore, so suddenly she has clarity, she does remember, her face isn't as red... she looks better... she's no longer an alkie etc... it's all a mess.Emily Blunt is dying to play a massive Oscar winning performance in a leading role in a movie, but she keeps picking the wrong projects... you feel her talents are being wasted on that Tom Cruise caper and now this... but then you're saying, well, actors need to work, the number of leading roles women get are in very short supply as it is... mixed messages... just like this movie...There is a story, a message and a movie in here someplace. It got lost half way through.

The Jury was out to lunch but, now has returned with a verdict of a 5 star rating
Having read the book then some of the reviews when this film was released I was unsure how I would feel about the film version. To be honest I was disappointed that the location was changed and having watched the film noted it wasn't quite as nail biting keeping me on the edge of my seat as it was when reading the book however, I have to give it a 5 star rating as on the whole it was a very good adaption based on the book. I won't go into details as don't want to spoil either the book or, the film for anyone that hasn't read/seen The Girl on the Train.
