The author has succeeded in covering all aspects of Queen Elizabeth’s life and personality. With skill and perception, he has woven a comprehensive summary of both the public and the private dimensions of Queen Elizabeth’s life and personality. His sources are acknowledged, and his anecdotes are delightful. Without a doubt, this is the best biography of Her Majesty that I have read. The book is a definite keeper!

An Endearing Portrait
I had to wait months for this book to arrive from the UK, but once it arrived, I couldn't put it down. Brandreth, as usual, can't tell a story in chronological order because he always thinks of something in the present that relates to whatever he's saying about the past. Still, once you accept that the story is going to jump about in time, you will be rewarded by some great royal anecdotes. Clearly Brandreth has great respect for Elizabeth and Philip, though not for all members of their extended family. He goofed on a few key dates, however: I had to write in the correct year for the death of the last Duke of Kent (1942) and for Charles and Camilla's wedding (2005). Still, the book is a good read, allowing us a backstage glimpse of the Queen and her family.
