My current thermocouple is 2 " , is it ok this one is 3". ? I have a mount Vernon quadrafire.

i would use a 2 inch or the thermocouple cover will not fit correctly,they do sell the correct one at amazon.

This is definitely shorter than the thermocouple cover I have on my Quadrafire 1000. Can I use this shorter version?

All I can tell you is that I have had to replace my cover on my Quadrafire two times since I have owned it. My unit takes a 2" cover that I have not been able to find. I cut the 3" cover down to a 2" length using a small 7" grinder with a diamond blade on the grinder. You must be very careful and not force the cut, just let the blade do the work with light pressure from your hand as you cut the cover. I am in the construction industry so I have these tools, but I'm sure if you have a Mechanical fabrication shop in your area, they would do it for for a minimal fee.
