Such a big box but SO reliable and amazingly priced
We got so sick of HP ink jet printers with the constant paper jams and ink-clogging and wasting. We only print like once a week, so we needed a printer that can go thru long periods of non-use then work perfectly. So the criteria was: Laser printer, name brand, and NOT HP.We found this and managed to get it for approx. $160. We LOVE it. We have had it 9 months now, ZERO problems, and haven't even had to change the toner yet. As a bonus, we are enjoying the copier & scanner features, and especially love the 2-sided printing capability. The only negatives would be: 1) It is a gigantic box that takes a lot of desk space. (Fortunately we have a huge desk.) It seems like overkill to have an "office grade" printer in the home for such occasional use, but its reliability is SO worth it, and we got such a good deal on it it's sure to pay off soon in not having to buy $50 ink jet cartridges all the time. 2) Obviously it only prints in black & white. We mostly print homework assignments and work documents so rarely miss the color. The reliability benefits far outweigh the loss of color.

Not authorized for sale in USA - tech support nulled. Wireless doesn't work. Wired in only.
Hi. The printer came with the ink already installed, my handyman had installed two same models, and said the ink cartridge was not already installed in those. He didn't understand why the wireless wouldn't connect and I plugged it in. He spent far too much time trying to figure it out and we thought maybe it needs to be registered to get access to a different download (like hp). Well, I registered it the next day and it said the identifying numbers were not through an authorized US dealer and disqualifies it from technical support from Canon. So, no technical support, no way to get a download or trouble-shooting to help get it wireless.Since it took my handyman the extra time, and as a problem solver he couldn't pull himself away, I now have a wired in printer. It is working, though not through the normal Canon software, but since I have it now, it looks to be a good printer for the price, and I already had put the box into recycling. So, I am keeping it out of convenience and expense for the installation. ( saved me the trouble of being aggravated at what should have been a straigt forward simple install. I should have at least gotten an Open Box discount or sold as a returned item, obviously the toner cartridge hadn't pre-installed itself. But I didn't want to print on it and then return it, and needed some printing done ( ie. decision to recycle the box). The Canon store at Amazon should have a disclaimer that the unit they sent is not an authorized model for the US, as it was the same price as new elsewhere, no discounts, and if I didn't need to print some pages, I would have spent money on install and returned it as well. The printer is good, not feeding from the top for copies, and can't call Canon for help. The printer itself prints great, but I got the same printer as my daughter and family, so if we need to troubleshoot we can help each other. And now I have the same printer, that is working off different software, so that idea is out the window. Again, if I hadn't needed to print some pages, I would have felt obligated to return it, as the seller is dishonest in sending out to the US, not authorized to sell in the US products, that don't work with the normal setup. But I got a working printer when I needed it, thanks to Amazon speedy delivery, however, not being tech savvy, considering how many issues my handyman had to face for what should have been a 5-10 minute install, I would say, everyone recommended this Canon printer, but please buy it new elsewhere, from an authorized store, so you can get full functionality, an easier set-up, as well as the principle of it all. I would have returned it on principle, had I not needed to print some pages and had my handyman not taken so much time with it. Recommend: don't buy from this Amazon store if you are ordering from the US.

Easy to set up. Works on Chromebook without Play Store!
I had to replace my 15+ yo Canon MFP. I chose this printer because it supports ethernet and Chromebook. It was very easy to set up. After going through the menu on the printer to get it on the network, it showed a URL to go to from your devices. I selected the printer model, and it detected the printer and the operating system and installed the necessary drivers. This worked flawlessly on Windows 10 and 11. What surprised me was, on my Chromebook, it said I needed to install an app from the Play Store, which I don't have enabled (my preference). There was also a link on how to print from Chromebooks, which was just to print, and selecting the printer. And it worked! I saved the printer and set it as the default. It only takes a few seconds to start printing, and the quality is as expected. Some inside plastic parts feel a bit flimsy, but this is not a commercial printer. I like the paper cassette - it's an actual drawer that you open to load the paper into (my old printer was not like this). I have not tried scanning or printing from a phone.

Overkill for a home machine but still great bang for the buck
I purchased this for my home. I tend to go overkill (reasons below) and wanted to get more than I'll need for a while. The setup was mostly easy. Mostly.Printing is super fast and easy right from the box. As soon as it was connected to my WiFi, my computer saw it and was able to print. Print quality is good. Pretty much what you expect from a greyscale laser. Standard office machine style fare.Copying is about as simple as you would think as well. Lift the lid and place paper facing down or use the ADF.Scanning... This is the weak spot. Using the ADF to scan was one reason I went with this one. I wanted to digitize my files for better storage. However, the scan to PC button is trash. I can't seem to get it to work and as many people here have had issues with support, I won't bother with them. BUT....I found the scanner just fine using a basic Windows scanner utility and am able to trigger and receive scans just fine using that. I still have more work to do on learning how to optimize it and get results I prefer, but that's on me.Why go overkill? Simple. I wanted duplex printing and ADF scanning. I wanted a laser since I don't print with any real frequency, but I want it to always work (no dried up ink cart heads...) Most importantly, and I can't stress this enough....I despise starter cartridges. This one comes with a standard toner cartridge, and being made for small offices, it's going to last me a good while. I don't want to but another printer or more toner/ink for a while. This should fill that requirement without issue. Just wish the scanning was a better experience.
