Goon Library, The Volume 1 (The Goon)

This is a beautiful book,a similar size to the absolute size DC hardcovers.It's not for everybody as some of the other reviews show.The Goon is set in it's own universe, in a world that seems to be perpetually stuck in the 1940's,a world stuffed with supernatural creatures and Lovecraftian horror's.Turf wars between zombies and humans are frequent with lots of laugh out loud moments, comedy violence and general all round monster/gangster fun. So if i were you i would pick up The Goon and check it out for yourself.At this price for such a large and high quality book you can't really go wrong.

Simply awesomely brilliant - it's goofy fun and a the language not for kids, but it has the entertainment factor of the very best comics. The artwork is top of the draw, and clearly progresses from the early stories. There is pathos mixed in with the humour, so there is undercurrent of sophistication that is not obvious at first sight. This is a large book (bigger than DC Omnibus), but handsomely put together, heavy duty paper, sewn bound, brilliant value overall. Top buy recommendation!

I have only now discovered the goon. I know I know I'm late like Greeks at a dinner party. The goon is absolutely hilarious. It doesn't take it self serious and Eric is having loads of fun. The art progresses throughout the book. The goon and Franky are both cool characters. I can't wait to read more, will be ordering the second volume shortly.

Collection of the year ! Probably best purchase I made in long time. Must have piece for every fan.

Decent offbeat comic fun, high quality product and plenty of bang for your buck.

Starting with the good: This is the usual excellent quality presentation from Dark Horse library editions, premium paper, well printed, sewn binding, very high quality, so from that perspective fantastic value for money. The not so good (and this is purely personal taste). It's a bit offbeat for me, the result of which is that there's no real sense of progression or depth to the overall story. It's a bit slapstick for my reading taste, hence carries limited weight. It's similar in tone to Adam Warren's Empowered.

Junto com seu diminuto e leal amigo Frankie, o Goon mantém a ordem no seu lado da cidade enquanto ao mesmo tempo precisa lidar com a ameaça do Zombie Priest, o líder zumbi que domina o outro lado da cidade, e de outros perigos tanto sobrenaturais quanto mundanos. O livro é grande e pesado, de boa qualidade,e o papel espesso, diferente do que Marvel e DC vêm usando. É um excelente custo-benefício A série (que será coletada em cinco libraries no total) mescla elementos sobrenaturais e de terror com humor negro e ação, embora haja também momentos mais emotivos, e mantém a qualidade durante toda a história. É uma das pérolas da editora Dark Horse, que publica(ou) outras ótimas séries como Hellboy (também coletado em libraries), Usagi Yojimbo e Concrete.

I had picked up some Goon stories here and there, but never gotten around to reading the whole series. When I ordered the volume 1, I didn't expect it to be nearly as big or as beautiful as it turned out to be. Sure, Mr. Powell repeatedly warns that the early Goon stuff is rough compared to the art down the road, but it's still great fun, and this collection in particular is awesome. Definitely a bargain at the price, and hey, it can double as a weapon in case you need to defend yourself!

Another fantastic Library Volume from Dark Horse. Before I get into the Goon (which I never had read before), I wish DC/Marvel/Image would take note of the Dark Horse Library versions which are superior to Deluxe/oversized versions of the other three because: 1. Price: Usually the librarys are cheaper than comparative deluxes from Image/Marvel/DC. I bought this from 28 bucks. Compared to the 40 I paid for Fatale Deluxe volume 2 when pre-ordered. The Goon Library is a much nicer hardcover. 2. Size: They are bigger than the deluxes from the other companies 3. Quality: They have extremely high quality and thick paper. I find this really helps if you live in a humid/dry environment. Stops the wavy page issue from cropping up This volume is fantastic, I have already pre-ordered 2 and 3. In terms of The Goon itself? I love it. Its well drawn (I actually really like the art style on the first issues), and the characters are charming and hilarious. I have read and own lots of content (Hellboy, Daredevil, Preacher, Sin City, Hawkeye, Vagabond, Prophet, Criminal, Sleeper, etc.. etc...) and after going through this The Goon shoots the top of my favourite comic collection. Make sure to pick this up. I think the price has gone up but I would say even if it costs $40 its more than worth the price of admission.

Enthalten sind die ersten 4 TPBs (0-3) vom Goon. Beim Einzelkauf kostet eine TPB-Ausgabe 15€, hier bekommt man sie im Schnitt für 10€. Sauber gebunden, wesentlich größere und qualitiativ hochwertigere Seiten als die originalen TPBs. Und im Regal macht die Library Edition ebenfalls eine gute Figur. Zum Goon selbst - toll gezeichnet und geschriebener Genre Mix aus Horror, Satire und Crime. Ich freue mich auf die kommenden Library Editions.
