## Description

From the manufacturer Extech TG20 Wire Tracer and Tone Generator The TG20 Wire Tracer Kit is used to quickly trace and identify cables or wires within a group and also check the operation of phone lines. The transmitter has output cables terminated in a modular RJ11 phone connector. The non-contact amplifier probe audibly identifies the selected wire or cable so that you can easily trace from source to termination. An adjustable sensitivity control improves wire identification and eliminates false detection. The TG20 comes complete with a Wire Tracer Probe and Transmitter with RJ11 phone connector, a pair of alligator clips and two 9 V batteries. Power: 9 V battery (1 for transmitter and 1 for probe). Dimensions (Probe): 8.7 x 2 x 1.3 inches (220 x 50 x 32 mm). Dimensions (transmitter): 2.6 x 2.7 x 1.1 inches (65 x 68 x 28 mm). Easily trace wires from source to termination Insulated Probe Tip Non-contact probe audibly identifies selected wire or cable. Adjustable Sensitivity Rotate the volume/sensitivity control on the probe for the appropriate level and sensitivity to identify and trace the wire. Continuity Testing The Continuity LED will light up if the resistance is less than 10,000 ohms; brightness of the LED diminishes as resistance increases. Easy-to-Read LED Indication Green and Red LED lights indicate Tip/Ring lines and Clear/Busy lines.

Review: A Useful Wire Tracer That Gives Good Value for Money - Professional wire tracers can cost hundreds of pounds, but as I was only trying to find where four Cat 5E cables were going, I opted for something more affordable. I'm pleased with the purchase. By placing the transmitter on the Cat 5E cables behind the faceplates, I was able to determine which cables they corresponded to at the network hub using the probe. It doesn't have the best range, so if you're looking to locate cables behind walls, I'd get something else. It gets a lot of interference too, but if you make sure you probe the end of each cable, you'll find this tool invaluable.

**Q: What is the maximum distance this will work from the cable?**
A: I would avoid this product. One of the worst I've come across as my profession as a systems engineer.

**Q: Does it work for electrical wiring (220v), having the mains off obviously?**
A: It works on any cable the voltage does not count
