Material not as expected

This is one of the dresses I bought for the Kentucky derby and weddings coming up in May. I ordered a size 12 knowing that it would need altered. I am heavy on top so was surprised that other than it needing pulled up at the shoulders, about an inch, and taken in about an inch on both sides down the bottom of the dress, it fit perfectly. It is a beautiful causal dress. There is a flower overlay on a silky slip dress. The flower overlay has colors of purple, silver, black and navy. I am very happy with the look and fit of this dress. Unlike one of the other dresses that I ordered from the same designer..???
