What a wonderful book
Wow! I have never laughed out loud and cried so much reading the same book.Ove is on the face of it an antisocial irascible man living alone and prowling his neighborhood finding fault with almost everything and everyone. But Ove is so much more than just a grumpy old man. He touches the lives of so many people in such a positive way without even intending to or realising he is doing so. The more I read the more I loved Ove - yes he is rude and intolerant but at heart he is kind and generous - though he would never recognise the goodness within himself. This book with written with so much humour, juxtaposed with so much pathos. It will stay with me for a long time - I would give it more stars of I could.

Chaotic and funny
Once you get used to the time jumps and the narrative of an old, grumbly man always used to being right, the way this new phase of his life is thrust upon him is quite entertaining to read.Ove, as a character, had definitely had more hardships than the average man, however he isn't one to sit and wallow for long. He just keeps going. It's admirable of him. Especially as the whole book is based around him wanting to join his dearly departed wife, Sonja.Intrigued to see both movie adaptations now, to see how loyal they are to the source

Very touching
I didn’t expect to like this story but I went in with a big recommendation from a friend and as I reached the final pages I had tears streaming down my face. It’s quite a journey. Funny, warming and yet quite heartbreaking and tragic.I loved it.It has short chapters which I like.Kindness and generosity is often in the people we have already wrongly written off. A lesson for us all.I wish the world had more Ove’s in it.

Clever, funny and sad... an exceptionally well written and observed tale
Loved this book. Initially I was a little horrified that Ove, at 59, was referred to as "old" (I'm a little older and found this quite derogatory - at first...) His manner was certainly that you would associate with someone perhaps a lot older and somewhat bitter about life... But as the story unfolds. so does the story of Ove and Ove's life and you can really, really understand how and why Ove is the way he is.Over time, Ove meets and 'befriends' (always reluctantly at first) all sorts of people and their characters and his interaction with him is so well written. It's such a clever, funny and sad tale that it was hard to put down.I've not seen the movie but, in my mind, Tom Hanks would be Ove to a 'T'.Great writing and I look forward to reading more books by the author.

Style
This is a refreshing style and reminiscent of the 100 year old man who stepped out through the window. One had to accept that stories were pieced together, but, once thecharacter of Ove had been accepted the whole thing was fun and enjoyable. I shall watch out for other books by this author

Great book on old sods
Great depiction of getting old and responsibility to ones' society. The roles we play and the families we adopt along the way.Interesting insight into mental health and grief. How much neighbours' attention can change the course of depression.Great read.

Just brilliant
I loved this book. It made me laugh, it made me cry. Everyone should have the privilege of knowing an Ove. Cannot recommend it enough.
