Churchman Children’s Book Celebrates a Border Collie Puppy & the Joy of Working on a Farm
Jennifer and John Churchman have created the third book, A Farm for Maisie, in their Sweet Pea & Friends series, and it’s wonderful. The delightful story follows the arrival of adorable Maisie Grace to Moonrise Farm (which is a real Vermont farmstead) where animals and people work together in marvelous harmony. After meeting the magnificent animals, Maisie, the new puppy, observes that everyone has an important role in making the farm vital. She wants to make her own contribution; and with the guidance of Laddie, resident border collie sheepdog and encouraging mentor, she learns about her importance to the farm, the farmer, and the lives of all the animals. In her growing participation, she begins to see the farm as her home — as her farm. Please read the book aloud and get ready for your kids to be inspired to honk like geese, bark like dogs, baa like a sheep — you get it. This book inspires joining in.Besides the truly heartwarming story, the gorgeous animals (yes, gorgeous, the book incorporates John Churchman’s legendary photo illustrations of the actual animals), and the aesthetic excellence of A Farm for Maisie; I personally enjoy the insight the book gives into the border collie trait of shepherding and a love for working; and I appreciate the beneficial example for children. Finding a place in a community and bringing one’s talents to a receptive experience is something that makes every child (if not every sentient being) feel at home and valuable. Thank you Churchmans for a beautiful, happy, and deeply enjoyable book with the gigantic cuteness factor of Maisie Grace interacting with lambs, flocks of fowl, a pony, and her own pack. What a pup! What a book!

The sweetest book!
Beautiful illustrations, wonderful (true) story. My granddaughter's name is Maisie and so I just HAD to get it for her. So glad I did!Paper pages, so be careful with younger readers, but the pages are thick and sturdier than most.

Beautiful art and cute stories. I love supporting Vermont farmers and this couple has a real farm in VT! Elementary kids would like this. I bought it for my friend’s son who is almost 2 and he loves the art and will sit still to have mom read it to him.

Beautiful Story AND Photos
I'm a graphic designer so I tend to over analyze my kids' books. This is a very well thought out book! The photography and story compliment each other and how fun is it that this is a real place! We are excited to read the others now.
