Hot, intriguing and suspenseful, cannot wait for book 2

Provocative (White Lies Duet #1) by Lisa Renee Jones4.5 stars!!!“Murder brought us together. Lies could tear us apart.”I have had an amazing reading week this week and Lisa Renee Jones has just added another one to the pile and this is definitely my favourite of hers to date. Provocative is a romantic suspense with a whole heap of sexual tension that keeps those pages turning a mile minute. This was a book that kept my attention from the very start and held me rapt until the very end. Now I am desperate for Shameless and a few months to wait will feel like forever.“And just like that, Nick has proven I was right about him from the beginning. He is dark lust. He is all-consuming. He is an escape I crave. Maybe he’s even an obsession as he’d called me. But more so, he is dangerous. I sense it. I feel it like I feel this man in every part of me inside and out. But then, so am I.”Faith is the owner of a winery, inherited from her parents, but at heart she is an up and coming artist. Faith bleeds art and it pains her that she has had to put her career on hold while she rescues the family business her father loved so much. The winery though is thwart with problems and none more so than money, with her mother’s will in probate she is stuck between a rock and a hard place and with creditors banging down the door she is adamant to do the impossible.“Because you touching me still feels better than you not touching me…”Nick is a lawyer and one that is hugely successful and highly feared, he didn’t earn the nickname “Tiger” for nothing and more than lives up to his reputation. Nick has done his homework on Faith, he knows her inside out on paper but what he wasn’t prepared for was the connection they shared in the flesh. From the moment these two meet the pages crackle, the tension sizzles and the chemistry only flames. But this was not on Nick’s agenda. But what is Nick’s agenda?“That’s where we’re differing here, Faith. I’m thinking about every moment I have with you and you’re thinking about goodbye.”A relationship born from secrets and omissions is definitely going to have its problems and these two are guilty of this on both sides, but it is this that ramps up the suspense and intrigue as Lisa Renee Jones slowly lets slip little snippets of what each of these two are hiding. I loved how the reader is just as ignorant of the truth as the characters, and as these two are enlightened the reader is too. Each fact was safely stored and continually churning around in my brain as I try and piece together the truth just as quickly as Nick our intrepid lawyer. But, what is fact and fiction? What are truths and lies? And basically, what the hell is going on?“…maybe even from that very first provocative moment when I first made eye contact with Faith, my original agenda has changed. I stopped looking for ways to prove her guilt, and started looking for ways to prove her innocence. That might seem as if it works for her, but the truth is, it doesn’t. Because when I want to believe in someone and they let me down, they betray me, my wrath is vicious.”The chemistry between Nick and Faith is off the charts. Neither character wanting a relationship and yet both are constantly fighting the inevitable and it is this push and pull that really cemented these two as a couple I wanted to see make it. The banter and dialogue between these two is infectious and really brought these characters to life. It is this that gives them that human touch and gives the reader that all important character connection.“Do you know why I painted that, Tiger? Because I was trying to figure out why I want to trust you but can’t.”There is still a lot to come for these two and I am still battling my brain trying to fathom how and where Lisa Renee Jones is going to take their story. The suspense and intrigue was spot on and I love the fact that even having finished this book a few days ago, my grey matter is still churning away. I am desperate for Shameless which releases on July 11th, I cannot wait to see what is in store for these two.

    HLB Reviews Provocative

Okay biggest downside to duets, waiting for the second one to come out. I picked up this book with every intention not to read it until the second book came out (I am seriously not a person with any kind of patience), but the cover was so pretty and it kept staring at me from my kindle, so I broke and I read it. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad I read it, but I'm so bummed I have to wait to find out what happens next. I want to say I have read a book by Lisa Renee Jones in the past, but it's been a long time, but remember enjoying the book I read by her in the past, and since this is a duet, I figured this would be a good place to jump in and try out her writing again. I think if you are unfamiliar with her, this would be a good choice to jump in a try out her writing. There are a lot of things about this book I liked, some of them are small and nuanced, others are big themes, but needless to say there are a lot of things I enjoyed about this book. So honestly, when you first meet Nick (a.k.a. Tiger) he's at a function at Faith's family winery. I honestly didn't pick up on the fact that Nick knew who Faith was until after their first meeting, so either it was good writing or Nick is just that good of an actor. I'm not always a fan of the whole woman in trouble man swoops in and saves the day plot line, and I was worried that's where we were going. Faith's family legacy is in trouble. Her mother died with massive debts and it looks like Faith may lose her family winery to the bank, something she is fighting as much as she can, but the legal roadblocks are many. Of course Nick is a lawyer, so he was just step in and work out the problem. I was so happy to see Faith push back. She is not a wilting flower. Sure she is damaged, without a doubt, and she fully admits it, but she is not without a backbone and she does not need saving.I liked that Faith is an artist, and a lot of book deals with the art scene, I liked that the art scene was incorporated into the book, and Faith being a painter wasn't just like a characteristic that gets mentioned once or twice, it really is who she is. In the same way, Nick is a lawyer, and he lives and breathes his profession, they both have lives and professions and which are both big parts of the book. Nick also rocks that super hot mysterious vibe, long hair and tattoos included, and that totally worked for me. This book does seem to have a BDSM element to it, but it's super tame, so if that's not your thing, don't let it turn you off to this book. Oh and just because the BDSM is tame, doesn't mean that Nick doesn't leave scorch marks on the page when he gets in the same room as Faith. Nick get himself into a tough spot during this book, I mean you can't strategically engineer a meeting with someone in the hopes of secretly gathering information about them to prove they did something and at the same time build any kind of lasting foundation for a relationship. You know at some point she is going to find out and all is going to come crashing down.I like books with a mystery element to them. I liked trying to figure out along with Nick the full picture of what is going on. By the end of this book I was wondering if I was right about Faith or maybe Nick's original assumption is right, or maybe I'm just totally off mark and there's some sort of third option that I just don't see yet. The book ends not on like a super cliff hanger, but it left me asking question and wanted to know the answers as soon as I possibly could. I think this is a really good first book in a duet, and I can't wait to get my hands on the next one.
