Set in the economically depressed England of today, CAL is a startling sequel to the hit 2009 film, SHANK. 20-year-old Cal returns from France to Britain after receiving news that his mother is ill. He finds his home city of Bristol facing hard times, with poverty and crime on the rise and rioting and looting rife. Now openly gay, Cal clashes with his homophobic mother and alcoholic, predatory aunt. Things soon turn around upon meeting a cute, young student who needs his help. However, Cal s act of kindness brings about a whole lot of trouble and a race against time to make peace with his mother and escape his home town. An intense, dark and intelligent feature bringing Cal s story bang up-to-date. Review: Good follow up film - This is set a few years after the first movie ( Shank ). Cal returns to England as openly gay to visit his dying homophobic mother. Set in the future with high unemployment, gang warfare and riots. Great to watch. Shame that Shank hasn't been released on Blu-ray. The quality is way better with this Blu-ray. Review: Virgo is brilliant as Cal again - Virgo is brilliant as Cal again, moody but with a good heart, I did detest the drunk lodger but then that personal memories invoked, The bad lead in the film was deliciously seedy and the sub plot a bit crass but overall a decent film, worth watching to know what can happen to youngsters when things go wrong.

So glad i bought it and watched it!
Totally loved watching this. I felt Wayne Virgo did an excellent job at portraying the character of Cal and Jason also did an excellent job with his character. I feel it could have been longer in length. I am gay myself and it really did show me all of the difficulties gay people can face in life and how difficult things can be. It also showed how hard it is being unemployed and falling in love with someone. I know it is not a true story but it really delivered on all topics covered throughout the dvd. The only other downside is that i feel it could have explored the two guys settling down together and shown the things were finally on the up for them both as they both had lots of issues. I still give it 5 stars despite the two reasons i feel could have improved this dvd. This is a great buy and i feel that it is a must see dvd.

If You Like Dialogue delivered Like This you'll Love this Film
Oh dear where do I start? first off I enjoyed Shank! but this is a very bitty follow up! The acting (in some cases I am using this term very loosely!) is average (apart from the aunt who isn't done any favours by the make up dept those teeth!!!! yuck) the set up for the whole story is just stupid oh I've been robbed of my passport I'll just get in the car with the person who stole it and go off and have sex with a stranger on the off chance I might get it back!! umm registration number phone police might get it back quicker and safer! there's a full frontal look in the mirror scene for absolutely no reason other than to get a higher than a U rating probably! and the ending well you make your own mind up! after watching this film I just felt annoyed! that I'd wasted the money! and left wondering who the other reviewers are related to in the film!!

An Engaging Film to Watch
Very engaging right the way through. Low budget but story has a mission and good human interest. A bit too much emphasis on protest marches etc but it make the point

Weak story
In this continuation of the " cult " Shank , little is revealed , it is known that the protagonist was traveling in Europe , but there's flashback of his passing , it is not clear how Cal decided to leave the thug life and try to integrate into society, script is weak , heaps of predictable situations , such as the rejection of the mother who does not accept their homosexuality and their reconciliation at the end , do not miss the bad guy that gives villainy of the story , gay romance is unattractive , the acting is amateurish , an attempt blend of documentary and fiction , with a tone of reportage of his time , in scenes sometimes excessive economic crisis in an attempt to justify the decay of the characters . Wayne Virgo who plays the title role , is more restrained than in the previous film , and stop delight of his fans the director completely undressed in a scene that has no meaning in history , but it will be the joy of the admirers of beauty Rude actor. But the picture is good , the blue tones fit well , and the open ending that leaves no Cal unclear whether he died or not , makes room for a third party , do not know if there's breath , but if Virgo appears naked and sex scenes with other men have your captive audience waiting for him.

Such a bore to watch
The story line was dull and the writer who wrote it should never have bothered. I would not recommend this DVD to anyone. Dull crap is the best way to describe this DVD, Don't waste your money or your time. Story line is a drag and dull and I was a sleep within 10 minutes of turning it off. Highly not recommended , don't buy this or rent it as it just not worth the effort.

Bello ..sexy...

This is a sequel to Shank. Three years have passed. Cal (Wayne Virgo) and Olivier have apparently broken up and Cal has been looking for work all over Europe. He returns to Bristol when his aunt writes to him that his mother is dying of cancer. He tries but there is no work to be found especially when you have no education or skills. He befriends a rent-boy (hustler) Jason (Tom Payne) from a beating by his pimp known as Ivan. The reason for the beating is that Jason doesn't want to do a particular "client" because he smells and tastes like rotten meat. Ivan's retort is that he doesn't care what he smells or tastes like, he pays and you will perform. Cal breaks it up but after a scuffle Ivan finds his passport and keeps it. To get it back Cal has to perform. There are in a way three stories here. The riots in Bristol, the situation between Cal and his mother and the situation between Cal, Jason and Ivan. The last straw comes when Ivan's client wants to watch the both of them beat each other up. They fake the fight as much as possible or they will be killed. When over, Ivan informs Cal that since he won, he must now rape Jason. If you saw Shank, you know what happened to Cal and he refused and after a scuffle got Ivan's gun and wounded him. They took off with his car and took all the cash. I won't do a spoiler but the ending could leave it open for a third "Cal" film or it could end at number two. The acting in intense and the story is well laid out. I give it a five

The acting and photography/ editing of this film is really good. The storyline is depressing. Setting this in winter adds to the depressing feel. All the adults in the story are self centered and abusive to the younger guys. Shank is a better film with this character.
