The French Chef Cookbook

No recipes illustrated
Misleading description of product. There are no illustrations of the recipes in this book, just shots of Julia Child in her studio. The very reason I bought this book was for Julia Child food photographs to better understand her recipes and presentation and this is a complete dud.

Nigella with a hammer
More cookbooks should have a picture of a cheery woman wielding a gigantic hammer on the front - it sold me on this one. Julia Child's personality comes through every page - she doesn't just list recipes and methods, she talks you through it as though she was standing in your kitchen watching you, and even things that you might find tricky if you were to attempt them by yourself appear do-able when she explains them. I really enjoy reading this book, as well as cooking from it, plus you get the sense that you're closer to the heart of 'proper' French cooking than with many chefs, without having to actually flog your way through the Larousse Gastronomique.
