It is a legit lifetime replacement.
I just replaced my original with a completely free replacement. The steel they use on the ends will eventually rust, as mine are going. But the guarantee is legit.

Good brush, but not for all applications
The build quality of this brush is great. Something to consider if you have a pebble tec style pool or a pool with a lot of curves. On the flat pebble tec surfaces it does require more force than a narrower brush. It does clean well. My pool has a lot of curved side surfaces and this is where the extra width makes it difficult to use. I plan on using this brush for the pool bottom and a narrower brush for the sides.
