We have some japonica doing well next to our ferns. If we use this for the ferns is it worth putting some in the japonica too or is it the wrong mix?

Sorry I don't know as I have not used this for years and no longer have this plant food go online and look up what's the right food for your japonicas or if you have books on plants check there

There is no "best before" date as far as I can see. The standard bottles are quite tiny and won't last you that long anyway!
