Beautiful Collective Toy!!!

I'm a huge Bandai fan, from their Gundam models to their Star Wars models. This model was quite a bit of a drop from those. Those are engineering marvels and this is a like a regular older model that always doesn't quite fit right with parts. Still love it but you definitely will have a harder time on getting pieces to line up and stay together.

This is a 1/72 model kit of a Tactical Pod Regult by Bandai as seen in the Japanese anime 'Macross' and its American counterpart 'Robotech'. It is basically a very mobile armoured battle suit on two legs as uses by the alien Zentraedi race. In the anime it has a height of 15 meters and is armed with 6 guns of varying calibre. In short: this unit really means business.The packaging of this kit is really appealing and the box art is very good. The artist really did his best to make one believe this Pod could exist in real life, although it is just from a cartoon. Some photo's and drawings at the sides of the box are of help when building and painting the model. The manual is - not surprisingly - completely in Japanese. Because the assembly instructions are so well depicted, however, it really isn't difficult to get this kit together. A much appreciated feature in the manual is that it also contains a photo of the sprues of the kit but already painted in the appropriate colours. It really helps when painting this unit. All model kit manuals should have this feature in my opinion.The assembly of this kit is not very difficult, although some filling and sanding is necessary here and there. Overall, it comes together nicely and is of a decent height. The detailing is very good and it has masses of fun alien decals. When assembled it also has some interesting features, like - for example - movable side thrusters and poseable legs and guns. A very nice touch is that it's possible to open the backdoor of the Pod. Although the interior itself does not have any detailing, an experienced modeller could really go to town here by custom-building the interior or by adding a lightsource so the red cyclopean 'eye' lights up.As the 1/72 scale is very common in modelling it is easy to add some extra bits and pieces from other model kits, which is also fun to do as it emphasizes the size of the Battle Pod. Just add some figures and scenery of the same scale and this kit really invokes the spirit of 'Giant Robot Attacks Earth'. Models of wrecked houses and some running figures are ideal for this.Taking into consideration that this model kit is derived from 'just' a cartoon one can only praise it for its detailing and features. In all it makes a very nice model kit which is also fun to make. Want a break from making model cars and planes? Or are you a fan of the 'Macross' series? Then really take this model kit into consideration!

Lot of attention to detail, relatively easy to assemble and really nice decals. The final model looks awesome. Bandai is the best.

Easy to assemble but some putty is definitely a must for the leg.I intend to put a camouflage paint scheme on it instead of the original cartoon colors
