It sticks well but it's reasonably easy to take the items you glued apart should you so wish, although you may get some glue residue on one or both of the surfaces, and it can leave a thin layer of one surface on the other if you unstick them. **Q: Would this work to hold a large rip in a pair of shorts together while i sew around it?** A: Yes. The last batch had ordered ended up being a brown colour - e.g. old stock and the adhesive qualities very poor. Bostick is great for what you are outlining in terms of material - you will find that there is no need to sew the item.
