When fastening to the bench is it screwed from the top or underneath the bench?

I usually clamp it from underneath and that keeps it very steady. For extra sturdiness I have drilled two holes into worktop and when vice is clamped I just drop two bolts into holes on vice and through worktop. I don't put nuts onto them. This way its very easy to remove vice from worktop. I have 2 of them and they live on a shelf and only get used as necessary.

Does the vice come with a clamp to attach it to the bench or do you have to purchase that separately?

Mine has both clamp and screws to attach it to the bench. It's a bit tricky if you want to fit it so that the jaws are flush with the bench, as I did, but it can be done.

What is the distance between jaws when fully open

90 mm when fully open i have 2 x 15mm jaws on mine to protect wood

does vice come with fitting instructions

I got mine a few years ago so can't remember. Just been using it and I can tell you it's a great vice. There is a wind up clamp on the bottom which I use on mine so I can move it along the bench. I find this very secure for my needs. It dose have pre drilled holes if you want to bolt in place. All said this is a good vice.
