Nikwax Tent and Gear Solarproof

My older tent has recently started to let some water in places, so it was either fix it or gert a new one. I had used Nikwax products before and foud them reliable, so decided to give this one a go to see if i could save my tent from landfill. I already had a suitable sprayer, so just filled it up and got to work. I chose a day which was not too sunny, as I did not want the waterproofer to dry too fast and end up with clearly visible spray marks. The day was warm and it did not take long for the spray-on to dry. Once complete, I was quite pleased with the result. To test the performance I pitched up the tent in my back garden when I knew it was going to rain. I was very pleased to discover that the waterproofer worked very well and I was not getting any more moisture coming through, in the same places where previously I had the problem. I would recommend.

I would ignore the negative reviews as they seem to have misunderstood what this product is and what it's used for. If your tent is currently leaking this will not help and has the possibility of making it worse. This product is used to add an outer protective coating that isn't waterproof but is water repellant. This will cause your tents fabric to start beading water so it runs off easier. Much like when having your car interior or home sofa protected with something like Scotchgard, the water will sit on top of the fabric rather than soaking straight into it. A water repellant is no good if your tent is leaking. Your tent can leak for 2 reasons: 1. (most common) Water coming through the seams of the tent. This is because they are not tightly woven like the main canopy is and over time the waterproof layer on the underside of them fails/cracks. If this is your case then you can buy a seam repair kit to solve this issue. Even the best tents have this problem over time. 2. Water is coming through your main canopy. This is due to the polyurethane coating that's applied to the inside of your nylon canopy wearing away or cracking. Again you will need a specialist repair product for that. This product MIGHT help in the fact it could bead the water away from the damaged areas but it also MIGHT make it much worse if the water beads onto the damaged areas. Either way, if your tent is currently leaking this isn't the product for you.

it does what it says .... we use it for the wings of a microlite to try to ensure the canvas wings dont perish from being stored damp in a cold hangar and from the intense sun in france .......as there are no holes in the wings and they haven't dropped off yet ....i think it must be a good product ........if it does air plane wings i am sure it will be fine for your canvas camping bags tents draw sheets rucksacks and maybe even shoes .......

This stuff works on canvas, waterproof coat materials that are no longer waterproof. It works on converse type shoes, some types of mesh trainers. My German army coat is completely waterproof with this stuff as are my Craghoppers trousers, as are my wife and daughters Converse trainers and RocketDogs.. On something like Trousers it lasts a shorter time because of so much movement and friction. You do find on some clothes you notice that friction and flexing areas will need proofing more regularly. I do shoulder areas a few times because i want the best protection if it's torrential. There is a slight smell, almost vingegary, that wears off. I've never found any other waterproofer that works as well as Nikwax and have put loads of other people onto it too. Some things you spray it direct, some you soak in a tub, practice makes perfect.

We had an incident where we packed away a wet tent ( a no no I know) and unfortunately after some more bad weather we were unable to air it out for a week! This meant that there was a few mildew spots when taking it out but this solar wash sorted it right out and they came out brilliantly! My tent now looks and smells clean and refreshed and I bought the solar proof to use after aswell! The product comes with a sprayer which works brilliantly and the product goes far! For a 6 man tent I used about 1 litre of product!

Perfect for all your gear. Easy to apply and very effective on giving your gear a boost and refresh, can get some blobs on spray but they can be wiped off or they disappear when absorb. Can get plenty of uses for money. Have done a tent and couple coats and stilla have some left. Does have bit of a smell when applying so recommend doing outside.

Having used Nikwax products in the past it was always expensive but worked well. This product is still as good. Bought to weather proof our 6 year old well used Kampa Air Pro Awning having never been done before and a few very minor water weeps around one of the seams I thought I would give a go. Well it it worked , a simple spray and brush off the excess and the leaks go away - brilliant. I noticed that instantly the awning is now beading water preventing large puddles it’s like new actually again brilliant. Suggest using sparingly as it runs down quick wasting the product plus be careful getting on skin as it’s hard to wash off. Overall amazing product that has made our well used awning waterproof again! Highly recommended.

Happy to give this product a shout out. Not only does it work it's quite surprisingly safe for the environment compared to other water proofing agents. Little tips: where disposable gloves for easy clean up and you will be able to encourage the liquid into tight corners and folded flaps. You will get better coverage in the shade and this will also help you out with out stopping half way to clean up the excess spray

Ottimo prodotto e ottimo rapporto prezzo risultato Io l'ho utilizzato sulla tenda da sole a rullo che abbiamo dovuto sostituire lo scorso anno ma che purtroppo per averle uguali alle altre non era impermeabilizzata. La tenda lunga circa 6 x 5 metri (tipo veranda) Ho fatto così: 1) l'ho srotolata completamente, poi ho incominciato a pulire con idropulitrice, man mano che pulivo da bagnata, la arrotolavo 2) una volta che l'avevo pulita completamente, la srotolavo 50/60 cm per volta e spruzzavo Nikwax (il bidoncino ti arriva corredato da spruzzatore) 3) attendi due minuti e poi toglievo eccesso con un mocio bagno e ben strizzato 4) srotolavo altri 50/60 cm, rispruzzavo Nikwax, attendevo 2 minuti, toglievo l'eccesso; e così via tutta la tenda 5) ho fatto così tutta la tenda, srotolandola tutta 6) finito la tenda, ho aspettato una mezz'oretta per l'asciugatura completa (dipende dal clima) 7) l'ho ribagnata sempre con l'idropulitrice ma con un getto più delicato, e man mano la riarrotolavo 8) una volta bagnata e riarrotolata tutta, ho dato la seconda mano come sopra (v.punto 2) Il risultato è quello sperato. Per fare questo lavoro, eravamo in due e ci abbiamo messo 2 ore e mezza. Il telo non ha cambia colore, ha un'ottima resistenza all'acqua, non gocciola più sotto e non si creano più le pozze di acqua Arrivato prima dei tempi di consegna previsti!

This stuff works very well. So well in fact that it is almost impossible to clean off your hands after application. The water just beads up on your skin.

Lo compré para alargar la vida al toldo de casa de mis padres que ya tiene sus añitos y había dejado de ser impermeable. Su toldo mide unos 12 m2, tras informarme averigüé que más o menos 250 mL daban para 5 m, así que compre 3 botes para poder cubrirlo bien. Extrajeron el toldo, lo limpiaron bien primero y después aplicaron el producto, muy cómodo al ser en spray y se seca bastante rápido. Ha quedado con muy buen aspecto. Por lo que me ha costado estamos más que satisfechos.

Hab mir diese Imprägnierung von Vaude gekauft, weil wir im Urlaub an die Ostsee gefahren sind und nicht so gutes Wetter angesagt war. Habe also ein paar Tage vor dem Urlaub das Zelt aufgebaut und das Imprägnierspray nach Anleitung aufgetragen. Dazu müsste man das Zelt einsprühen, überschüssiges Spay entfernen, nass machen, trocknen lassen und dann wieder überschüssiges Spray entfernen.(vllt was in einer falschen Reihenfolge geschrieben, aber alles steht gut erklärt auf der Flasche) das ging schnell und gut von der Hand und wenn man schnell im Zelt aufbauen ist, dann würde ich jedem empfehlen es vor dem Urlaub zu machen, ansonsten kann man es ja auch am ersten Urlaubstag imprägnieren. Ergebnis: Alles gut. Drei Tag Regen im Urlaub und alles absolut trocken. Sicherlich liegt das auch daran, dass ich ein gutes Zelt habe und es ordentlich aufbaue, Abspanne und innen nix an die Wände kommen lasse, aber auch an dem Spray. Würde es wieder kaufen und preislich finde ich es auch ok. Hat gut gereicht für ein 3-Personenzelt.
