Mad Max: Anthology [Blu-ray] [2015] [Region Free]

Outstanding 4K copies. Of course i was expecting for the recent Fury Road to look amazing and looks incredible. But what i was not expecting was to find such a fantastic 4K restorations, particularly in the first movie. The first movie in 4K is so good that even the second and third movie cant surpass. And all the films in this box look and sound fantastic. Five stars for all the 4K versions. If you are wondering how different they are from the regular 1080p blurays also in this set, its like looking at a Vhs compared to a bluray. For example Mad Mac 3 on bluray in the 1080p in this set looks ugly, discolored and grainy, but the 4K disc is awesome. Also this set includes the unique Fury Road version in Black and white which is truly an incredible visual experience and makes you wish all the movies in this box also had a black and white version. The Fury Road black and chrome edition is worth the price of this box alone and its not even in 4K. Also this collection includes an excellent two hour documentary on the making of the original + plenty of making of materials for all the other movies ,except for the third one. Overall this is a fantastic purchase and well worth the 4K upgrade if are a fan of these movies.

Worth watching if you enjoy films or you're being nostalgic. I remember watching the first film in 1980 at the cinema when I was underage. Did you know the original Australian film was dubbed into an American accent. This Blu-ray version gives you a choice of dubbed or the original Australian version. The 2 sequels are also enjoyable. I could write about many of my favourite parts of the films. The later Fury Road was unexpected but a good film.

I had not really seen the Mad Max films so rectified that with this brilliant set. Mel Gibson at his best. Highly recommended, was a great price Elizabeth Hair

The Mad Max Anthology box set comprises all four movies (to date) plus a separate disc featuring the all-new ‘Madness of Max’ documentary. The versions of the first three movies are the same as those included in the Mad Max Collection box set and boast solid PQ but virtually no extras. The Fury Road disc is identical to the stand alone 2D release. The packaging is okay – all five discs are squeezed into a standard Elite case contained in a fairly thick slipcase, with a pack of sealed art cards also included. I agree with another reviewer in that I would have preferred the info to be printed on the slipcase rather than glued on, and personally I think a bigger case would have been preferable, though it’s a great space saver. The quality of the movies themselves is variable, though all four are highly entertaining. Personally I think Mad Max is showing its age, not to mention its limited budget. The car chases and stunts are impressive, but action scenes often seem to be over before they’ve got going, and the final confrontation between Max and Toecutter is all too brief and ends rather unsatisfactorily. Acting is also pretty variable, with the bad guys something of a liability on this front, though Joanne Samuel and Steve Bisley are excellent as Max’s wife and best buddy respectively. What really elevates this movie though is of course Mel Gibson: his magnetic charisma carries Mad Max over its humps and bumps, and you feel his pain as his life is torn apart and root for him as he seeks vengeance. Mad Max 2 stands head and shoulders above the rest of the franchise. Without the need to show how Max became mad, and with considerably more money to spend, George Miller is able to launch straight into a frenzy of action scenes and spectacular stunts. Gibson is superb, and the supporting cast is good too, with Bruce Spence as the Gyro Captain, Vernon Wells as the sadistic Wez, Michael Preston as Pappagallo and a young Virginia Hey as the nameless ‘warrior woman’. My only gripe is that the leader of the villains is rather ludicrous - a muscle-bound hulk wearing a hockey mask and sporting a dodgy accent and a silly name (Humungus). Thunderdome is a curate’s egg of a movie. There is an awful lot of good stuff here – Barter Town, the Thunderdome fight itself and the climatic car chase are all superbly done – but I personally find Tina Turner irritating, and the introduction of the children who believe that Max is their messiah slows the pace and injects a feelgood factor that seems out of place in this franchise. Gladly the film doesn’t provide a Hollywood happy ending for Max. I’m still not sure quite what to make of Fury Road. In its two hour running time it seems to cram in more mayhem and carnage than the previous three films combined. The action is frenetic and the stunts are outrageous, and the performances are generally first rate, with Charlize Theron magnificent as Furiosa, an excellent turn from an unrecognisable Nicholas Hoult as Warboy Nux, and good support from the actresses playing the Five Wives. But Fury Road has little discernable plot – even Mad Max 2 had a story and a twist at the end – but this is just a “chase followed by a race”, as one of the crew describe the movie in a behind-the-scenes featurette. Another gripe is that often the action happens so quickly that it’s hard to work out what’s going on; even with the benefit of the rewind button on my Blu Ray controller I still couldn’t figure out what was happening at times. Despite all the stunts being done for real, there is ladles of CGI and digital enhancement on display, the result being a film which looks very different to the previous instalments; indeed, sometimes it looks like the action is taking place on some alien world somewhere. And not all of the CGI looks that good, with the computer generated guitar and steering wheel in the climactic crash looking especially unrealistic. But for me the fundamental problem with Fury Road is Tom Hardy. I generally quite like him as an actor, but not only does he not resemble Gibson either physically or vocally, he also seems to spend most of the movie looking lost and bewildered rather than cool and mean. He is great in the action scenes though. The PQ is excellent by the way, though Miller’s frame rate manipulation often results in things moving across camera in a jerky fashion, which is somewhat irritating. As stated before the first three movies are almost completely bereft of extras, with trailers and a commentary plus introduction by Leonard Maltin for Mad Max 2 about all you get (maybe sometime the extras included on one of the US releases will make their way across the Atlantic). However Fury Road comes with around 90 mins of featurettes and deleted scenes, which are generally pretty engaging and informative. Sadly the Madness of Max documentary comes on a DVD rather than a Blu Ray which means the PQ isn’t that great, but at 2½ hours it’s certainly exhaustive and in-depth; indeed while there are plenty of interesting and amusing anecdotes, it seems to go on forever and would have benefited I think from a bit of trimming. Still, with contributions from virtually the entire cast and crew, including a disturbingly twitchy Gibson, you can’t really complain. Overall I’m giving this set four stars instead of five because: the packaging could have been better, there are no meaningful extras on films 1-3, the new documentary is on DVD rather than BD, only Mad Max 2 is a five-star masterpiece, and at £28 I reckon this is rather pricey for a 5-disc set (compared to £15 for the 4-disc Back to the Future 30th Anniversary set released on the same day). But if you don’t own Max on BD yet, this is still a must buy.

Gladly I decided order when Amazon UK sale on 14.99 recently.The package quality look better than I expected! I wait about 3 years for buy this Anthology boxset (I wait for such cheap price!). Even I already had the first trilogy Mad Max (US Tin package).But I still miss Mad Max:Fury Road on Blu ray.Now I am completed! The package of Anthology set look really good.The boxset is hard slipbox and this set includes 5 discs (4 BD(all Region Free!) + bonus DVD (Region 2 PAL)) and it also have 4 artcards which is the original poster art look really cool! So,overall this Anthology set I don't have any complain at all if you want the all Mad Max movies with good looking boxset for collectibles and really cheap price. I really happy to recommended this Anthology UK set! *•I also surprise the first three Mad Max in this Anthology UK set also have Thai subtitle!(I live in Thailand). •The Road Warrior disc in this Anthology set is the latest 2013 Blu ray (50GB disc and have DTS-HD audio) like the same included in Trilogy set. •The first Mad Max in this UK set just Blu ray 25GB and the original Aussie English track just Dolby 5.1audio. •Bonus DVD is long documantary about first Mad Max movie only.I agree the interview footage look really poor! Great set of Films , have wanted the anthology set for a long time, great price really happy with the collection.

The production menu on here says 17 discs it a not it's 10 ,doesn't really matter it's a great set never heard of the black and white version on 'fury Ross's ,should be interesting Trivia When mad max was first released years ago the Americans couldn't understand Mel's accent and was heavily dubbed , they didn't know who he was either ,when the film was released again his normal accent was 're introduced into the films I really liked Tom hardy in fury road,and I did see the black and white version today which was outstanding

This review is purely for the blu ray not the movies themselves (we all know they're great). The original 3 movies have never looked better. A huge step up from the DVDs. With really good detail and colour, the intercepters yellow paint work looking great. The sound has also had a bump up as well giving us a surround sound mix for each movie. The first movie being pretty much front heavy and the 2nd and 3rd movies being pretty active surround mixes. The latest Mad Max is one of the best looking and sounding blu rays I have seen. The colours just pop and the detail extremely life like. The latest movie also includes a Dolby Atmos track which is sure to shake the foundations of your house. All in all an amazing boxset.

Todo excelente, la calidad de imagen en 4K es impresionante, se puede ver en las capturas que he dejado, además la primera película viene con un DVD de extras con subtitulo en castellano, en la última Furia en la carretera se incluye además del 4K y el BD la Black Edition en Blu ray que es un añadido más a esta saga, esta edición UK tiene todas las peliculas en ambos formatos en audio castellano, incluido la Black edition, el único que no lleva es em dvd de extras de la primera película, si subtitulado como ya he dicho, todo a un precio más que asequible, en mi caso no ha llegado a 14€ por película. Amazon como siempre de 20 en todo, empaquetado y entrega.

Really impressed with this set. On initial impressions the slipcover and box are well made, and the cases are full size with good hinges in them. The art matches between the films really nicely. Mad Max includes the 4K, Blu-ray, and "The Madness of Max" behind the scenes featurettes DVD. The Road Warrior includes the 4K with bonus features, and the Blu-ray. Beyond Thunderdome includes the 4K and Blu-ray but no bonus features. Fury Road includes the 4K, the Blu-ray with bonus features, and the "Black & Chrome" edition on regular Blu-ray (no 4K master sadly).

I like this version best at a fair price. Recommanded.
