14.5 inches. Standered opening between normal stud walls. The RO is the space that the cabinet will fit in. As all ways please follow the manufacturers installation instructions

What are the rough in dimensions of this item?

The Rough Opening 14 1/2" x 48" If your home was built in the last 50 yrs the studs should be 16" on center and the unit fits perfectly between them. My wife just loves this stow-Away Ironing Cabinet. Hope this was helpful GoodLuck

I don't know but, personally, I don't think you would want to go smaller. This is perfect for an adult shirt or slax
