first time using this
this is the first time I have used this type of bedding, as I usually buy the "loose" bag stuff. I like that it takes up less space when you store it on the shelf of supplies for our scaly babies. Also, since it has to be soaked to expand, it definitely helps maintain the humidity in their enclosures, which is a huge benefit. I haven't determined if our babies like it better or not. That will be the ultimate determination, and also not necessarily a fault of the product. It could just be the pickiness of our babies.

Didn't expand as much as I thought it would
For this one brick I was barely able to fill a 1.5 gallons of it when it had fully absorbed expanded in water and had the excess water drained off. I thought one brick would of at least filled 2.5 gal bucket. But it didnt. I may have to buy another one. I even tried to dry it out on the sun and then rewet it and still the same. Oh well, going in the compost bin. I had success adding to my worm bins mixed in with newspaper and cardboard for the bedding. So I wanted to give it another try. With my new bin I've added.

Overpriced, not the weight advertized
This coco coir comes in a very compacted brick that expands quite a bit when water is added. The price is a bit high compared to other options. The product, even with the packaging does not weigh the advertised weight. The coir itself is a decent quality. It hydrates well. There were not any noticeable foreign products/contaminants in the coir.

Coco coir, not just for critters
At least not furry critters. I actually got this to use as bedding for my worm bins. It’s so great because it starts out in a cube and with the addition of water expands. It can be mixed with soil for planting too. Great price and product.

Great for my tarantulas and my leggless lizard
This is great bedding for any type of reptile, arachnid, or other types of invertebrates. I use it for my tarantulas as their sole bedding and as a base layer for my Russian Leggless Lizard. This comes in a compressed brick that needs to be soaked in water to expand before use. I always use hot water then let it soak up the moisture over night. Then I spread it out in a shallow pan to dry a bit so it isn't too wet for my tarantulas. It decompressed well, without too many hard chunks that didn't absorb the water. It is a good consistency for small tank pets and holds together just right if you have a pet that likes to dig or tunnel. After crumbling it apart and examining it I didn't find any foreign material ... just coconut husk. I would like to point out ... that despite the use of the word "peat" in the advertisement that this does NOT contain any actual peat moss. If you are worried that it might actually contain peat then don't worry because it doesn't. I examined it closely after soaking and all I found was finely shredded coconut husk. I recommend.

Easy to use
This is great for frogs, snakes, and spiders. The coco bedding is easy to clean with a hermit crab bedding scoop. It holds moisture better than just moss. Just be careful not to get it too wet or it will turn into mud.
