Director/star Mel Gibson took home Best Picture and Best Director Academy Awards for this historical epic about 13th-century Scottish hero William Wallace, a farmer of lesser nobility, who is forced into fighting the forces of England's King Edward I after they kill his father and new wife. Highlighted by amazing battle scenes, the passionate saga, based on a 15th-century poem, also stars Patrick McGoohan, Sophie Marceau, Angus Macfadyen, Brendan Gleeson, and Catherine McCormick. 177 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack: English. Three-disc set.

A fine film made even better on blu ray
The cinematography and soundtrack of this film stole audiences hearts in the theatres back in 1995. So will the blu ray as it includes a remaster of one of the finest films of our times. 2 disc edition is really an amazing package.Video- 4.5/5Audio- 4.5/5

A good 2-disc Blu-ray set of a very good movie.....Recommended!
This movie is a crowd-pleaser. It had won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 1995. Mel Gibson does both the jobs of acting and directing very well. Although the movie is based on a true-story, many historians don't consider it accurate. But it doesn't matter even if it is not entirely true, because it remains engaging for the whole of its approximately 178 minutes of runtime. Its an epic movie with many violent battle scenes and has very good acting even by the supporting actors. Watch it if you haven't seen it already. The 2-disc edition released in India is almost identical to the disc released in UK by 20th Century Fox except for the fact that the Indian edition has the inferior lossy DTS-HD HR 5.1 and UK one has the lossless DTS HD MA 5.1. The picture quality is very good and audio track is fine, but it would have sounded even better, if it had the lossless DTS HD Master Audio track. The disc released in US by Paramount has a Dolby TruHD 5.1 track and few different bonus features. The common features on both discs are Director Mel Gibson's Commentary, a 30-minute Tales of William Wallace documentary, a 22-minute A Writer's Journey feature and 2 interactive features - William Wallace's world, and Battlefields of the Scottish Rebellion. Other unique features this Indian/ UK version has are Albu Gu Brath! The Making of Braveheart" - a 50 minute Documentary and 15 minutes of Archival Interviews with the cast and crew. While the US version has Braveheart: A Look Back - a 1 hour Documentary, Smithfield: The Killing Fields - a 25 minute feature on the city of Smithfield and Trailers of the movie.I bought this disc at 50% discount, so it was a good deal. For those who want better quality sound, they should buy the UK/US discs. But otherwise blu-ray disc is a clear upgrade over the dvd, so if you are a fan of the movie its worth upgrading.
