Cheap and Cheerful
The original 1:32 class of kits released by Revell in the late 70's reboxed for the next generation to bash. This here kit is pretty basic and inaccurate when compared to Trumpeter and the likes who do 1:32 F4U. For the money it's a bargain though as you get a large chunk of plastic for your money that can be turned into a very nice kit with major work or even minimal efforts.Raised panel lines and a basic cockpit and landing gear can, if so wished, be replaced with more modern aftermarket parts and the panel lines can be scribed out also. a little extra wiring in the engine bay can make all the difference for display.I have a few of these kits and have yet to build one but one I bought for a friend has been a success as he is a huge F4U fan and loved his.

Big but Basic kit- good for expanding with aftermarket
Got this on an amazon lightning deal promotion. It is an old molding from Revell of an iconic aircraft. The plastic is decent enough, however there is a lack of detail especially in the cockpit. Most modeller accept the kits shortcoming and use it as a platform to improve it with the mass of aftermarket detailing available for it (photo-etch, resin upgrades etc). Can be built up to a decent kit out of box, and a superb kit with a lot of effort. One of Revell's "large scale" models, so be mindful for display space once built!

Perfect for honing skills
This is a difficult kit to review... Some of the detail is excellent, the relatively unusual paint scheme is fun, and there is (for this money) a relatively high amount of detail - albeit quite often surface rather than recessed. However, the canopy was a little distorted, the undercarriage is flimsy, and the folding wings were a nightmare - so much so, that I ended up gluing them in the down position, and using a fair chunk of plastic putty to make it look good.I bought another two just for the challenge.

Beware of Paints
Clear instructions and quite easy to construct after lot of sanding of plastic parts. My main disappointment was with the paint:(1) Cost of the 19 recommended Revell paints was almost twice cost of the model(2) Major areas for painting (eg. wings, undercarriage, bodywork) required mixing 2 colours (e. 90% blue matt with 10% anthracite grey matt for topside of wings. Sounds easy, but couldn't feel confident of consistency and accuracy of colour. Better if Revell provided single tins of the exact colours needed.
