Good tank info, accessible while running
I have been able to identify all the tanks that have rumbled towards me after purchasing this. It was either buy this, remain ignorant, or move away from North Korea. On balance, it was safest and cheapest to buy the book. I am very satisfied.

Good basic introduction
Bought for my 11yr old great grandson, who has developed an interest in ww2. He appeared well pleased, time will tell if it stimulates an interest in tanks. I was impressed by the illustrations & basic background info.

Basic info on the most frequent tanks - but little that will help you with spotting / recognising them
If you are looking for an in-depth volume on tank recognition, or simply a book with lots of information, visual material, etc. on tanks this volume is likely to disappoint. On the other hand, if this is to be the first volume to sate someone's interest in the subject, it may well do (not for the committed enthusiast, though). What you get is a selection of some widely used tanks from 1916 till the modern day, with usually two colour drawings, some basic (but not consistent for all) information in terms of dimensions, armament, speed, range and powertrain (some have added info on armour, main gun elevation and depression angles), and a quick description of the design phase. Generally some of the larger users are also mentioned but the list is neither up to date, nor comprehensive.Information useful for spotting or recognising them (i.e. significant or differentiating features) is completely absent, even though it is promised in the introduction. Absent are also all tanks from France, Italy, Sweden and other countries, all of which played a role in tank evolution historically, as well as tank based support vehicles, such as self propelled artillery, self propelled AA guns, tank destroyers, etc.As said in the beginning it is a cheap and easy entry but if you get beyond that stage, the book is more likely to disappoint than satisfy.

Essential reference book for anyone with an interest in the history of military tanks. I found the Kindle version better for taking around to wargame meetings and competitions than a book especially as I have many other reference books on the Kindle at the same time.
