I'm a complete novice, but want something suitable for 9 year old grandson. Does this model present images 'upside down?

I can confirm the images are the right way up. It looks the part for a 9yr old. It got my 12yr old son very seriously into astronomy. Hes doing his GCSE this year a year early partly due to this scope. Images if the moon next to my review were taken with this.

I already have a more rugged equatorial (star-tracking) mount. Does the tube assembly attach to the mount using a standard camera-style fitting?

Yes - I use my Manfrotto tripod with mine.

does this set come with 10 and 20 mm eye piece

Yes, this Tscope is suitable for the very beginner only good for looking at the moon but not much good for anything beyond taht

What's the difference between travel scope 70 (amazon exclusive) and travel scope 70 outfit?

Aaaand the concise answer: The amazon exclusive comes with an extra 4mm eye piece and 3 x Barlow lenses. That’s the difference. Same software included.
