Review: It just works! - I needed this device to interface a piece of test equipment to my PC, running Windows 10. RS 232 isn't always the easiest interface to manage, but I plugged this lead into the PC, set the terminal software to 8-n-1 format and 9600baud. Windows set this device up as COM6. Plugged the D connector into the remote device and they started communicating with no fuss at all! The LEDS for Power, TxD and RxD are handy to prove data is moving, although they are out of sight most of the time. I have been able to test this cable at 9600 and 115,200baud with no apparent issues. Great little adapter.
Review: COM5 USB to Serial RS232 converter - This product did exactly what it said on the tin! It reprogrammed my telescope from my laptop's USB port over an RS232 connection. I have had problems in the past with other similar devices under Windows 7. I found a similar one in the past but it does not have a driver for my new Win 10 64 bit laptop. This VTOP device worked first time, it installed the driver, and then reprogrammed my telescope no problem! PLEASE NOTE that this device installed on my laptop as COM5 serial channel . I am not sure whether one can change this in the software driver, so make sure that you do not already have something running on COM5. It also has three LEDs on it so you can see it's working! Highly recommended!

**Q: is there a driver for this item ... my laptop doesn't seem to recognise it?**
A: No. My Windows 7 and Windows 10 recognised the port as soon as I plugged it in. You may need to check with device manager to see what virtual COM port it's been assigned to. You can change the port number if your app does not recognise it. Some apps only like COM1 or 2

A: You don't need any for Windows, Linux, Raspberry or MacOS. You will, however need to know the port the operating system has assigned it.

Plugged the D connector into the remote device and they started communicating with no fuss at all! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Does what it says on the tin - good buy.

Worked great to add a serial port on an old Windows 10 desktop that can’t be upgraded to Windows 11. Only small issue which loses a star was getting hold of the drivers for it as they were of course not present on my elderly machine. Used the url off the box (there was no url on the installation guide) and that landed me just a couple of clicks away from the download page. Limited info about compatibility with earlier versions of windows, so after rummaging about for a while and finding nothing more useful, took a punt, downloaded the Windows 11 drivers, installed, plugged in the serial device and voila - perfect serial connectivity. Pleased, and happy to recommend.
