Wonderful results and perfect for Impasto artist
Really great results achieved for impasto art. I loved it and would definitely buy again. It mixes well with all acrylic brands and increases the volume of paint by 50% so it also makes your paints stretch that much further saving you money. I love the fact that all my brush and knife strokes stay show the canvas. It dries to a soft sheen. Nothing too garish or super shiny. I like the fact it’s in a screw top tub with a sliver foil seal and I can scoop up a little product with a wood stick and apply to my palette how much I need without waste. Wonderful quality- Liquitex is fast becoming a favourite brand.

effective, reliable and versatile.
I start with what I like. I like that it easily dilutes the acrylic colours, both heavy body and normal, irridescent etc. It is my universal medium. Not only as diluent (with or without inhibitor), but also to apply it as tints or glazes and just applying as a plain undercoat or overcoat (in place of varnish). What do I dislike? Well, the usual quick drying, that double edged sword of all acrylics. I also like (as many might agree with) the tub it is in. Just one recycled ice cream stick and I can scoop out to palette what I need for paint or glaze, add any water if necessary and continue.

A great mattifying medium!
I use this in mixed media work, mainly as a final layer to tone down the shine of acrylics. It is slightly opaque and somewhat mutes the colours, which is great if that's the effect you're looking for. You can also work on top of it as it has a slight tooth similar to gesso. It's quite fluid, but it will still show brush strokes. If that's undesirable, you can apply it with a plastic card or just use your fingers. In regular applications, it's meant to be mixed with paint, but I haven't tried that yet. I prefer using it as a matte varnish, even though that is not its intended purpose! It will get rid of the glossy reflection of magazine images or photos as well. It's great if you're looking for a mattifying medium. Some people use this to create a faux-encaustic (wax) effect mixed with other mediums and paint. That's definitely something I want to explore!

good as it can be for gel medium
*I've been using Liquitex for some time and never let me down *sticks collage paper well *not shiny after it dries *so far had no issue with medium to get yellow over time *fair price for the amount *great for mixed media projects *nice to use as extender for acrylic paints *can be used for gel mono printing as last "pick up" layer

A difficult but somewhat useful product
It's a very glossy gel-like medium that allows you to add colour in a translucent layer when mixed with paint. That's not what I used it for. I used it as a clear layer on top of acrylic pour art, prior to varnishing with gloss, to make the colours appear more 3D and really make them pop, which it did. However, applying the stuff is a hassle. It's quite thick, and it's best applied with a palette knife. Like all higher-end art materials, the makers assume that you know how to apply it and all the possible uses for it, which is extremely snobby. It's designed to be used in a buildable way, but due to its consistency, which is a thick gel that doesn't pour, getting it to apply evenly is like trying to sandpaper a mountain until it's level with the ground. My work has all these lines on it from the palette knife that are visible even when it doesn't catch the light, and that's underneath two coats of varnish that you would expect to fill the gaps and even out the ridges. The manufacturer also doesn't state how thick is too thick, so I had to wait weeks for my last gel layer to dry because I had a line of 'white' unset gel that refused to dry to clear. I ended up scoring it with a knife to get some air in and force it to dry, which risked slicing through my artwork. I'm sure that these issues are less noticeable when you use it for building layers of translucent colour rather than keeping it transparent. It does dry fully within a couple of days usually. It also remains gel-like if you open the container and then reseal it, so it's not a single-use product, which is good. And to be clear, I'm still going to use it, I just wish it had a better consistency.

It really is ULTRA matte
As it’s label says, this is a very reliable matte surfacing medium. Used normally in fairly small amounts it completely pushes the gloss down into a dead flat. If increased in amount it will create a more transparent colour. But if you over use this medium expect to see so your paint appear a bit lighter in value. That whitish look is just a product of how matte medium works. And that’s normal. Thing is, most matte mediums don’t produce that whitish effect because they usually don’t contain enough of that material to really work reliably. This one does! I’ve tried so many as a studio art teacher. Use it in appropriate amounts and you’ll get a perfect result and you'll find the bottle will last a pretty long time. I love this ultra matte medium.
