Oscar nominee Michael Fassbender stars in this big-screen action-adventure, based on the wildly popular gaming phenomenon. Fassbender plays Callum Lynch, who experiences the life of his 15th century ancestor through a technology that unlocks his genetic memories. Callum discovers he once belonged to a secret society of assassins and amasses lethal skills to take on the oppressive Templars.

Game to Film genius
Having never played the game I come to this with fresh eyes and must say whomever made this film should take more games and put them to film This film is a work of genius and is full of action with an intelligent story that will keep you hooked all the way through and michael Fassbender makes his character Callum totally believable. . the story revolves around a group called the Templars whom are a religious group who want to totally control the human race and the main character has the genetic memory of an ancient assassin from the assassin's creed and he knows where an artifact is hidden that will give the Templars control. so they use technology to unlock those memories.Through the film you see Calum (Fassbender) have his mind overtaken by the assassins memories and as they blend together he takes on the personal and he also develops his lethal fighting skills.too. I don't want to give too much away here and for all those whom have played the game just put your brain away and enjoy the film itself. by far this is the best film I have seen in a very very long time and I certainly want more

Dark in Places - Assissin's Creed
The film does justice to the game franchise . It is very dark in places ( dark as in Not bright ) which meant I had to turn the brightness up on the tv.The extras are great and allow those who've never played the game, to get a better background understanding. Assassin's Creed [DVD] The story is fast paste and changes from the past to the present more times than I've had hot dinners which could be a little confusing to those that don't play the game. The actual film is about one and a half hours long and the rest of the duration time is made up of the extras.I found the over all effect of the film was a little lacklustre for my own taste (being a big fan of the game) But I have given it a 5/5 mark on account that if you've not played the game then it is a really good film. There is no over or under acting and everyone plays their rolls very well. Well there you have it my humble opinion and as you can see no actors /actresses; film crew or producers were harmed by the writing of this review.

Actually Pretty Good
Nowhere near as bad as the rather sniffy reviews that appeared when this was on general release. I watched this with my son who loved it. Its got plenty of action, drama and an amazing cast. I found it amusing seeing Jeremy Irons and Charlotte Rampling discussing the 'Apple of Eden' maguffin. I'm sure they were thinking more about the fat pay check at the end of the shoot. I don't think this movie will be a cult classic but I found it good fun and perfect for whiling away a couple of hours on a hungover Saturday afternoon.

Don't listen to the hate on this one
OK, lets be real here, you can not please everyone, it's impossible, now the bitter and disappointed aside, this film rock's.I'm a fan of the games myself, I play them and have really enjoyed the franchise as a whole, that being said I went into this with an open mind, unlike allot of people I think. over the year's I've learned to separate film from game, if you can do this you can enjoy the films based on games allot better I think. On first viewing the movie I was left feeling a little bit lack lustre, I wasn't really sure if I liked it or not, but upon a second viewing I feel in love with it. you can't fault Fassbender performance, he really, REALLY saves this film with his performance and it did leave me hungry for more.I think thats the fault with all films like this and there's just not enough time in one movie to fully explore everything. I want to know more, do Fassbender and his rag tag team rebuild the brotherhood? what do they do with the apple, basically what the heck happens next?I really, really want a second and third movie to find out more about the charter's because the film feels like the opening act with a promise for so much more which, if they go ahead with a second movie I think they can deliver.

Ok, not good not bad.
So, the general concept of the Assassin's Creed games are: a piece of technology called the Animus which allows you to view your ancestor's lives through genetic memory, only your ancestors happen to be a secret brotherhood of assassins who fight for freedom against the oppressive power seeking Templars who largely influence everything in the world. As such, you end up witnessing events in history that played out differently than what you read about in books (or internet) or learnt at school (seriously Da Vinci helps invent things for the assassins, Queen Victoria seeks the aid of assassins, several members in the American Revolution were Templars and even Darwin gets involved). Not only that, the Assassins are constantly trying to prevent the Templars from getting powerful artefacts from an ancient civilisation with highly advanced technology. With subtle elements of philosophy, religion, politics and life lessons. Interesting, right? The film manages to get all that right (well maybe not the last part about subtle elements) and that's where it stops though. The film is a semi tie-in to the games, referencing several events that happened in the games whilst being distant from the stories. I felt it also assumed that us the viewers had an understanding of the games to fully understand the film. Which I did. I understood the Templars and the Assassins. Yet the film still feels weak. I felt that the film should've been completely separate from the games, a standalone film or series. Introduce all these elements gradually. It was also more slow paced, dragging things out while cramming as much lore into it as possible. Despite a talented cast it felt short of telling a story I'm familiar with. This is one game series that would've worked better as a TV series, giving it more freedom. Being from Ubisoft themselves, I was expecting a lot. It's not bad, it's not good. And you'll probably struggle to understand everything without playing the games.
