A must-have If you hate mosquitoes!
This UV lamp has become an essential element in my home. No more need for mosquito repellent sprays that could affect my dog. It is effective and covers a large area well. Very good investment specially for the upcoming spring and summer.

Works well
Firstly I purchased this as we seem to have a few tiny flies bopping about and they were quite Frankly irritating. I have an electrified bat which works well but it difficult to see them so thought this would be a better option.Initially I was very irritated as the UV light did attract the flies. Then they sat on the frame. I also positioned the fly killer on top of my fridge and the flies sat on the wall behind. However I pushed it up against the wall and then it started doing its job. In 2 nights I estimate it got about 50 flies. Didn't even think there was that many in the house! It is noisy, we don't have many internal doors and it did disturb the kids at bed time. Would imagine some dogs not liking it too. It's a satisfying crack when it goes off.Gave it 4 stars as its not been tested against anything else than tiny flies. We get bluebottles in summer and a few horse flies as we leave doors open so hopefully it'll smash them up to.

Does the job - loudly
I bought one of these back in the Spring to put on a shadowy countertop in the corner of our kitchen. We seem to get a lot of fruit flies that gather in this area. Not anymore. This little beauty sorts them all out.I was thankful for the buyer reviews for this product because it certainly influenced my purchasing decision. We no longer have problems with flies. As for comments about the lead being too short, I am not so sure. I have mine on a worktop and it plugs into the wall. There's more lead on this product than the average electrical appliance, so unless you want to hang it from the ceiling and plug it in at floor level, then yes it could come up as too short. However, I like the convenience of having it at counter height. This means I can put it away when it's no longer required. That said, I've not put it away for a long time. I just switch it on in the morning and turn it off when all the flies have gone.A word on comments about the noise it makes when a fly gets drawn in and hits the electric fence. It makes a similar sound to an old-fashioned cap gun going off. just not as loud. Think of it as more of a loud Christmas cracker. At first, you might think it's too noisy, and it certainly makes one jump when not expecting it to go off. Even the dog was flinching at it. You simply get used to it after a short while. The noise though is a small price to pay for fly-free living. Now, when it goes off, my wife gives me a wry smile as if to say "another one bites the dust."On the downside, I can't find a link to buy some spare bulbs. That said, replacing the bulbs seems to be more than a bit of a faff than it's worth given the price of this unit. Bulbs will set you back about 50% of the cost of a replacement unit. If I can find replacements when I need them I will certainly do so, but if not, I would not let that get in the way of buying another complete unit.Open the box. Put it where you need it. Plug it in. Bye-bye flies.Provided you are not a noise-sensitive person I would thoroughly recommend this product.Update: A few people are still buying this product and suggesting it doesn't work and are returning thier item. This is most probably because they have yet to find the optimum position for the best results. I am also thinking that they might be simply switching it on and expecting it to instantly attract and kill flies. This is what I did initially. When I realised it wasn't going off very much even though there were tons of flies about - I moved it. After a while I finally found the best spot for it in my room. I use it in the kitchen and have it positioned in an area where we have previously been plauged by fruit flies. I've not seen one since. Another tip is to turn it on as early as possible and let it run until dusk. I have a dog and I like fresh air so my backdoor is often open all day. This brings flies into the kitchen, but the unit will eventually deal with the flies throughout the day. I then switch it off when it gets dark. While the unit comes with a chain to hang it someplace, I would not hang mine above the backdoor or some other place. I position mine at a 30 degree angle on the countertop so that flies are attracted to the black lights on both sides. If you want a fly free existence but are not thinking that this will clear a room in minutes, this is for you. If you want the latter then there's always a can of Raid. Hope you find this update helpful.

Kills flys and other flying things
This fly killer worked well for 3 months, on overnight in a normal kitchen to kill fruit flys that made a home in one of our plants. Unfortunately one bulb stopped working after 3 months and the other bulb stopped a week after that. Personally I thought they should last longer than that. Replacement bulbs £14 for 2 which isn’t bad and easy to replace but for a few extra quid you can buy the whole unit again. Positives are it does kill flys and other flying things, is easy to remove dead flys and is quite powerful as I accidentally touched it and it gave me quite a shock lol.

Noisy
It does work, but seems to kill all the insects which are not pests.Flies and mosquitoes stay well clear away from it.The noise when it does catch something is far too loud and although it says for indoor use, it really needs to be outside somewhere.
