Great for foiling! And much more!
Well I am very happy with this wonderful little mono laser printer but before I go into using it for foiling I have to say as I'd left it until now to post a review I am slightly confused!I got this in February this year for £49.61 through Amazon on Prime. But today there is one third party seller selling one that is 'used-like new' for £270 + £7.14 delivery! So please do be aware. The cheapest I can find it online under the HP label (they took it over) is for £70 and I've found an Ebay seller doing the Samsung version for just over £60.00 so if you want this do research well to find the best price.Right onto my praises for this machine:I'd wanted a laser printer for some time so that I could foil my own designs and when I had another look back in February I was amazed to find one so compact (it fits on the shelf of my workstation alongside my Cannon MG7550) and for such a reasonable cost. Glad that I looked back then now!So how compact it is and how reasonably priced it was were both huge bonus points. But also the quality of the prints for text and the speed and the comparable cost of a print to one done on an inkjet are also huge bonuses. So if you want a printer to do mainly text in black only then this is for you and if you don't use the printer often then it is even better because the toner doesn't dry out like the ink in the inkjets does.So now onto foiling:Well, what can I say? I have it set on high resolution and the 'Clear Text' and Edge Enhancement' set on maximum, with 'Toner Save' set to 'off'. This, I've found produces excellent prints on the 160gsm smooth paper I'm printing on that never seem to fail with foiling, even using my £20 Bonsaii laminator and using a sheet of 80gsm printer paper as the carrier!I do DUST though. Most important.I dust the print itself and the back of the foil and the carrier paper. Then 5 mins after that laminator light says go I feed it through and get better results than I could ever have imagined! Are there any negative points to this printer?NoThe only thing is that there are not adequate instructions to get it set up but there are several videos on YouTube to explain how to go about this and with those it was a doddle.I love this printer.

JUST BUY ONE AND GET RID OF YOUR INKJET. NOW IS THE TIME TO DO IT.
I bought this at a £39 special Amazon deal to replace a troublesome and ageing Canon MP220 inkjet printer. I had got fed up with having to fiddle with that printer to get it to work plus its usual refusal to accept replacement cartridges when these were non Canon etc etc. - or to persuade it to use the other colour cartridge to print in black and white whenever the black cartridge was empty. I had had the same problems with Epson printers too. In fact over the last 30 years trouble re: all these PC printers that seemed so arrogant and all knowing with attitudes as programmed by their makers! ! I realised I had limited or no need to print in any colour - just BLACK AND WHITE - it's all I really need anyway. This new LaserJet is brilliant, cannot fault it. Even with me just looking at the quick Samsung guide pictures it was up and running in a minute or so producing a very sharp looking A4 document. I had a spare printer USB male to male cable to hand - you need one of those - its not included - but I haven't needed to use the included Samsung CD software and may not need this now as my Windows 10 PC recognised the printer immediately. Print quality options are offered etc on screen via the driver auto installed by Windows 10. Perfect install. Bye Bye rubbish printers. At the price I paid it is a great solution for me who , like many, just has occasional needs to print - the laser toner should last far longer and not dry etc re: this printer as print cartridges do on inkjets. I had held off paying out bigger money for a laser printer - now was the time to buy. I will see how long the included 500 page starter cartridge lasts me - am not worried about that, there are many toner cartridge options available on Amazon and usually good deals - maybe £7 a toner cartridge when you buy 2 or 3 in one pack as well. I wont have to buy Samsung. l. So - as others have said in their reviews - get one of these. Its a simple well made small footprint device, wired not wireless - but I didn't want a wireless as it seems from many reviews on most makes these can be troublesome. Prints very fast too. One of those very pleasing purchases .... Amazon delivered next day anyway (I wasn't there) . Whilst I shouldn't complain about such a fast free delivery (presumably to entice me to sign up to Prime) I had really wanted to receive it on the later date as indicated at the time I ordered. Anyway it wasn't stolen or lost when I returned home so all was well.

Excellent small footprint, sharp rendering mono printer
This is a much needed upgrade from my very old Samsung ML series printer of the same size. I think the ML was still working fine and it was just a toner problem, but this SL was actually cheaper than getting new toner for my old one. This looks great for a start, making my old one look ancient and very ugly. It's a nice light grey, with clean lines. It's not an internal paper tray model, which I would've preferred, but it's not a real big issue to have to lower the tray. You just can't store paper in it ready to go unless you don't mind the dust. The paper insertion doesn't seem to be the smoothest, where there's no real recognition that it's aligned properly, but I haven't had any problems so far. The tray also seems to droop downwards a bit too when down. The drivers installed instantly on my MacBook (running the most up to date Sierra 10.12.6). When your computer options are set right the printer achieves super sharp output when using pure black on the document. With greys – like all mono printers – it's more of a cross hatch. I use it mainly for test pages when designing book layouts, with bigger title text often, so I need sharp detail when quickly proofing in the studio and this achieves that perfectly, so it's a fantastic upgrade for me.
