Since writing the review (below) would like to add the following:My computer crashed about 10 weeks after I bought the program and had to be restarted, wiping everything on it. Was unable to re-install Sibelius as the installation code had been used. Avid gave no help whatsoever, ignored e-mails and eventually after getting through to support by phone was told that 'it wasn't their problem'.Have continued to e-mail for support and they still don't want to know. Brilliant program, but a complete waste of money with the most appalling support I have ever received.Have recently tried to download Sibelius Free and guess what? That doesn't load and contact emails are ignored. After a lot of searching, to get help you apparently have to 'buy' a help session.Have gone back to using MuseScore which is free and works very well. Just angry that I can't access all my saved Sibelius files.Haven't used Sibelius for over 10 years, so a lot of 'improvements' and new things to get used to and get my head around. Had difficulty installing, but support was first rate.Most of the programme is as I remembered it , but miss not having a manual - takes forever to load up the Help and find what you want as there seems to be no 'search' facility on screen. Spend ages scrolling through pages till you find what you want!Particularly like the fact that you can now input chord symbols and they will automatically change if you transpose the score.

I bought this just over a year on the understanding that I was buying the software. & in fact in the Q&A section it was confirmed that this was a one off payment & that the subscription was for only the updates. I now find that I can't use the software without paying an additional sum for a further licence. If I had know this at the outset I wouldn't even have thought of buying it. To add insult to injury I also purchased the manual at some extortionate price at a later date . I am therefore approx. £100 down & nothing to show for it. Customer services aren't any help either.

I'm studying composition, so quite simply I can't do without this.One word of warning though - you enter a code on the product site and download it, which is fine, but downloading the sound library (which you also need to do) might take a while - the (compressed) file is 23GB. - If your download speed isn't super quick, download it at a time when you're not going out anywhere, as it might take a while (took me 51 hrs) - and make sure your computer stays on!Gave it five stars despite the download time because it's I think the best there is and I couldn't be without it.

It's not possible to give a realistic review at this time as Sibelius 8 is a huge piece of software with loads of features. However, I'm working through a book and video set and getting to grips with all the features. It certainly looks like it's covering all the the details that I need and I'm getting to grips with the comprehensive capabilities. There are loads of little subtleties that it provides that will all contribute to the project I got it for.
