To Say This is a High Quality-Game Would Be a Serious Understatement
To Say This is a High-Quality Game Would Be a Serious UnderstatementMy family loves educational games so we are always on the hunt for new options. We have quite a collection across a variety of subjects, but the one educational subject that is lacking on our shelves is history. So, when a new educational game centered around history hit the market, we were anxious to give it a try! When playing a new game, the first thing I always assess is the quality of the packaging and pieces. To say this is a high-quality game would be a serious understatement. The directions are thorough and laid out in a large-sized booklet with helpful images and clear steps. The "board" is made of neoprene, lays flat and rolls up easily. The research tokens, pushpin trackers and player "desks" are all colorful and solid. The chapter cards are gorgeous with vibrant images and researched information printed on thick and glossy cardstock. Heck, even the drawstring bag that holds the research tokens seems fancy with its pleather feel and scripted monogram. And, everything is perfectly organized in its thick and sturdy box. But, the quality is not just superficial! This is a well-thought-out game based on a fun, although slightly gimmicky, concept that each player is trying to write a book about remarkable women in history. Strategy is also at play here because the player with the highest-valued book (each "chapter" is assigned a value) wins the game. And, along the way, hopefully, the players are learning about some of these remarkable women. There are 120 women represented and we thoroughly enjoyed learning while we played. The collection of women included in this game varies in so many wonderful ways. Young and old. Current and ancient. Well-known and under-represented. Black and white. Rich and poor. Controversial and mainstream. Educated and not.The potential for this game is vast: Game night with girlfriends. Date night with the spouse. Free time in history glass. An unusual and unexpected gift. Homeschool break with the siblings. It's great for men and women alike and it's perfect for a wide range of ages and skill levels. The only negative I found is that learning about these amazing women is not an integral piece of the game. It's never even mentioned until the very end when the winner is supposed to read one chapter of their book to the group. But, it's an easy fix if you just add the extra step of reading each card aloud as it is drawn.

Educational AND fun!
I consider myself a board game junkie and I play them every chance I get! With friends, in our homeschool lessons or on date nights at home, board games are always my go-to plan. When I saw that Underdog Games was releasing a new game, I snatched it up as quick as possible. I was planning to hold on to it until Christmas but I just couldn't wait! The game is made up of gorgeous, high-quality elements. The neoprene board game, thick cards and large game pieces are much more sturdy than traditional board games. We also loved that we could start playing this game within 5 minutes of opening the box! The rules are simple and fun, yet challenging and engaging enough for all ages.I'm not going to lie, my favorite part of the entire game are the women on the cards! There are so many that I'd never heard of. I've spent over an hour just sifting through the cards, catching up on some of the most intriguing women in history. I love that the cards include modern women, as well as some from generations past. (Also, I was thrilled to see my all-time favorite lady of history, Dolly Parton, on a card! She does so much for so many people and I love her caring heart and "who cares" attitude! She's the perfect mix of sugar and spice!)We'll be using this game as the backbone of my daughter's "Women of History" homeschool class. With so many amazing women cards to choose from, this game is simply invaluable while she learns all about the women in history and their stories.Once again, another Underdog Games product gets 5 stars from our family!

Worth getting even if you have Trekking History
Although I haven’t played any of the trekking games with my 8 year old, I decided to teach HerStory to her as I learned it. It was very easy to teach her and was fun to play. I enjoy all the Trekking games by Underdog Games, but was hesitant to get this game as it seemed very similar to Trekking Through History. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it has a different game play although similar enough to make learning it a breeze. I am also impressed with the quality of the boards, cards, and playing mat. The playing mat for this game and trekking history are a good material. The images and information on the cards are nice to look at and easy to read. My 12 year old spend more time reading the cards then he did playing the game. He was intrigued to learn more almost instantly upon seeing the game for the first time. This is a great game to gift and is very valuable in our homeschool collection.

Entertaining and Educational
My twin daughters (9 years old) and I just finished playing this game today for the first time. Our family loved Trekking Through History and Trekking the World, and I was really excited to give this one a try as well!Right away, we were impressed when we opened the box. The game came with some "extras": a couple of postcards, bookmarks, and stickers that my kids got a kick out of. I was impressed with the organization of the box, and the high quality game components, which I have found to be typical of Underdog Games products. Her Story is a beautiful game to play that aims to recognize and honor women from history. The premise is that you are an author, and the cards you collect during the game become the "chapters" of the book you are writing to tell the story of these women. It's a fun, clever concept, and it's interesting without being overly complicated. There is a lot of strategy involved in your decisions in the game. It took us about 1.5 hours to get through our first game from setup to finish, and I imagine it would go quicker the more we play.We all really enjoyed the history on each of the cards, and my girls were tickled each time they saw a card of a woman they recognized from what we have already studied in our homeschool. We can't wait to play it again - I've already been challenged to a rematch!
