This booked changed my life. At the age of 29 I became unable to speak publicly, something that was fairly key to my job role. I didn’t know what was happening to me. I couldn’t breathe, I couldn’t get my words out, my heart was racing and I felt as if I was going to faint every time I had to speak in front of a group of people. A couple of times I had to stop talking altogether. It was embarrassing and random given I had spent the majority of my life with no problems with speaking publicly. I wanted it to change but didn’t know what was wrong with me. After some online research, I realised that I was having panic attacks. I came across this book. I was at home with a newborn at the start of lockdown but knew by time I went back to work, I needed to change. This book changed my life. It provided me with all the valuable tools I needed to overcome my fear. Did it change overnight? Of course not, and it wasn’t until I went back to work that I could really test the techniques I had learnt in this book. This book gave me the confidence and techniques I needed. It has been nearly 4 years now of putting myself in public speaking situations and I have overcome my panic attacks completely. I highly recommend this book to anyone going through a similar problem but you need to be prepared to face your fears head on and I promise you, it will get easier.

Brilliant book for anyone who suffers with anxiety/panic
This book is a fantastic aid for anyone who suffers with anxiety or panic attacks. It has really helped me with my anxiety problems. I know now what I need to do when I do feel anxious or when I start to feel that horrible panic!! If you are like me, you want to avoid medication but want to beat anxiety and not give in to it. Try this book if you do....work through it properly... read it from start to finish and practice with whatever makes you anxious like Dr Carbonell advises you do. Its the best way to be free of it in the long run! That's what i'm working towards...its hard going...anxiety and panic can be truly debilitating but i'm determined it will not win over me! Belly breathing is a wonderful tool for anyone who suffers panic...DO NOT skip this chapter! Dr Carbonell has a video on his website which demonstrates this. I think the saying is true...feel the fear and do it anyway!!

If you try nothing else - try this!
In three words.. It freed me.Fantastic interactive workbook, works through your anxiety step by step helping you overcome fears either specific phobias or generalised anxiety.I cannot recommend this highly enough.. Even now I refer back to it to make sure I'm not going back to that dark place if I've had a tough few days. Dr Dave- you saved me!

I have suffered from panic attacks and agoraphobia for over 30 years and have just bought this book after being housebound for 7 years. Since reading this book two weeks ago, I have left the house, been to a shop and am looking at it all completely different. I have read hundreds of self-help books and Claire Weekes' books were always my "bibles" but this is now alongside her in the "must" reads (also read "The Fear Trap - excellent and very different). PLEASE do give this go - Dr Carbonell has an amazing way of putting it across - like having a very learned friend with you. Also try his Belly Breathing video on-line. Can't recommend this book highly enough. Thank you Dr Carbonell.

Probably the best £12 I have ever spend in my life and the best book about understanding panic attacks. The author explanation is really good and its a very good read.

Useful book
This book helped me to cope with my anxiety & panic attacks. The breathing exercises we're especially useful. But I feel there are a bit too many 'U.S.A. type therapy' parts to it.

Panic Attacks may be caused by something really deep... but the solution to overcoming them isn't deep at all. It's a trick and nothing else. This book showed me that and helped me overcome them!

True and honest help for those of us who suffer!
As someone who has dealt with PTSD, panic disorder and general anxiety for YEARS, I can honestly say this book was a HUGE help in my recovery process. I have read what feels like everything on anxiety and panic attacks throughout the years, but Dr. Carbonells book has been the only help that triggered real change in my thinking and ultimately my life. He gives lots of examples for us "anxious people" on why we think the way we do, then challenges those thoughts and actions in a way that really sinks in. There are plenty of sections in the work book where you write your fears, worries and thoughts, then are guided through them leaving you feeling instantly better then you did before you read that chapter. I really can't say enough about Dr. Carbonell and the great things he is doing for those of us who struggle every day. Thank you sir! Please continue writing, your books are the real deal.
