One Piece: Collection 5 [DVD]

Alabaster concludes
This fifth volume of the 'One Piece' anime contains a further twenty-seven episodes (104 to 130) of this excellent series across four discs and concludes the brilliant Alabaster story arc. The first third of the episodes in this set see the Straw Hats and Princess Vivi rush in an attempt to stop the rebellion before it starts but the manipulations of Sir Crocodile and Baroque Works are already underway and a civil war is all but inevitable. The rest of the episodes in the collection see the battle begin in earnest and contains some of the best action in the series so far as all the Straw Hats get to fight against Baroque Works Officer Agents while Luffy himself fights Crocodile three times.Of the fights themselves, Luffy's second and third fights against Crocodile are very good but my favourite has to be Zoro against Mr 1that sees Zoro get his toughest battle since Mihawk and sees him learn a new ability. Other good fights include Sanji vs. Mr 2 and Nami's first true fight in the series as she goes up against Miss Doublefinger with her new weapon, the Clima-Tact. Usopp and Chopper's battle against Mr 4 and Miss Merry Christmas was also quite funny and reasonably entertaining. The plot of these episodes is nice with some twists here and there and the final couple of episodes of the collection are actually quite emotional as the Straw Hats say their farewells to the friends they made in Alabaster but the last episode sees a new the crew gain a new member. The episodes in this volume also introduce some things that are important to the myth arc of the series as a whole such as the first mention of the missing history and the poneglyphs as well as the thing Crocodile is truly looking for in Alabaster. The animation is generally good throughout (I did notice a few issues here but they were generally minor) and the English dub is of the same quality as the rest of the series although there are a couple of issues (alongside the okama issue I mentioned in my review of Collection Four). Firstly, although they managed to keep her speech pattern intact, I wasn't a great fan of Jennifer Seman as Captain Hina's for some reason. The second creates a minor plot hole when in episode 130 Captain Smoker says that Mr 1 was killed which will make the fact that he returns in a future arc a little awkward. The Alabasta arc is easily the best part of 'One Piece' until the Water 7 and Enies Lobby arcs and as such this collection is easily worth a full five stars.

fitting end to the first major saga.
This collection continues on to the end of the Alabasta ark, where Crocodiles master plan is finally reviled. This intern leads the Straw Hat Crew to do battle with Baroque works strongest agents in what can only be described as the toughest fights of their adventure so far. The battles themselves are so far the best I've seen in the series, with the best fight going to Luffy vs Crocodile. when all is said and done, the crew bid an emotional farewell to Vivi and anything but welcome to their new, unexpected crew member Nico Robin.A fitting end to the Baroque works saga and leaves me waiting for collection 6

Fab DVD
This is a fantastic DVD.This 5th part sees Luffy and the crew finish the Alabasta arc with Princess vivi.I have to say that the funniest fight is Sanji vs Bon Clay which breaks the fourth wall.Watch and enjoy.
