Review: Cappuccino Time!! - For some reason I considered reviewing this item from its arrival in my post .. and I'm glad I took the time so I could share my findings .. I've given it an all round 5 star rating! .. because .. its easy to use, easy to clean, light yet robust.. and above all - effortless does what you buy it for QUALITY FROTH! It could be a new learning on my part .. but I've never frothed COLD milk before .. so those like me who did not realise, if you don't mind your froth chilly .. then I found you get maximum density this way (images are with COLD milk). I did of course try the hot milk pathway .. results; fairly rubbish with Skimmed Milk, and I found with Semi-Skimmed it watered my coffee - which, as you can image is squirmish to taste .. On the coffee side - found making my coffee a tad stronger than usual created the right balance. Price was very good when I bought it .. so no brainer, even if like me - you've got umpteen choices of the same thing :)) UPDATE .. I've just frothed cold SKIMMED milk - WOW!! so this contradicts what happens with skimmed hot milk. So this Frother is suitable for any cow based milk .. cannot vouch for plant based milk - as yet! Hope this helps .. Cappuccino
Review: Great results if you don't mind putting the work in - I bought this product on the strength of jacobjacobi's review which suggested a great method for making thick foamed milk, which turns out far better foamed milk than any I've made with a steam wand. However, this isn't a foolproof product - you have to work with it to learn how to produce good results. On my first try I pumped 90 strokes, which didn't produce the volume I expected. Subsequently, I have kept pumping away until the milk has doubled in volume before putting the jug in the microwave. It needs a vigorous pumping action, keeping the filter within the milk. I place my other hand on the top of the jug and push down firmly to stop the jug sliding around on the worktop. Therefore, this product is probably unsuitable for anyone who doesn't have reasonable strength and movement in both arms and hands. Also be prepared to experiment when heating the foamed milk in the microwave to find the right time. My first attempt was too cold and my second boiled over. About 70 seconds at full power is about right for my microwave. Using the Latteo with a Bialetti Moka Express, I find that if I put the coffee on first, I have plenty of time to measure in my milk, froth it and heat it before the espresso is ready. In summary, the Latteo is capable of producing excellent quality foamed milk for anyone who is prepared to put in the work to learn how to get the best from it. In my opinion, this product is a tad overpriced for what it is (it's possible to buy a 1 litre cafetiere for less) but on balance I would still recommend it.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Anyone know how high jug is without the lid/plunger. I want to be able to microwave the milk in the jug. My microwave only has 16cm height clearance.**
A: Heat the milk in a separate container then pour into frothier. The frother is brilliant used this way. I heat 250ml milk for 2 cups coffee for around 2 mins then pour into frother ..plunge up and down for 20-30 seconds and milk doubles in volume. Been using it this way for a year now still going strong. 1 cup 125ml for around 1 min.

**Q: Can you purchase the jug separately? Mine has cracked.**
A: The glass is borosilicate which withstands very high temperstures but nerds to be thin, otherwise it would be as clunky as a Pyrex jug.

These usually come with a cork mat... the cafetieres from the 1980s was susceptible to damage without its cork mat put down first.

If you apply pressure to this on a regular work surface the glass will fracture.

Clipping the jug when putting in or out of a microwave will be enough to damage the glass.

Its aleays a trade off between weight, styĺe, gentle handling and something like the tesditional heavyweight Pyrex jug

**Q: Can you make a smaller amount for one cup?, thanks.**
A: Not really as filling to the max line gives the optimum result in terms of froth amount and consistency which is lot more froth than for a single cup. esp if using the microwave. The mcirowave is useful as the maual frothing should be brief as you end up w butter if using full-fat milk and longer frothing (>100 strokes). A 5 pound Tesco 2-cup cafetiere is just as effective to froth milk in and here you can really get single cup amounts just make sure the height of the milk column is close to that on the Bodum jug, about 1.5 in, about 4 cm.

**Q: I can't get the milk to froth!!! what am I doing wrong?**
A: The milk in coffee shops is not frothed this way, and never has been. Barista's use a jet of steam with the nozzle at the bottom of the jug which heats cold milk rapidly, producing the "froth" at same time. Whether a posh coffee shop or greasy spoon caff.... thats how milk is heated commercially.

Not very practical in the average kitchen, although back in the 80s kitchen coffee makers, a mini version of what you see in Starbucks and Costa sold well.

Easier ways to produce the froth, not just bubbles, at home came about via trial and error.

Ive had a Bodum 8 cup since mid 80s and a smaller 4 cup one that i used to use to froth milk in, that they have produced a jug without metal or plastic hsndle, that can go straight in microwave is huge bonus, saving washing up.

The fat content of the milk, whether dairy or plant makes a huge difference whatever method is used, steam, spiral mini whisk or mesh... between froth and just bubbles that vanish.

Think about churning milk to make butter, or that for whipped cream you need double cream, or whipping cream because the fat content in single cream is just too low.

Just like you dont use boiling water to brew coffee, you dont want boiling temperature milk for this process. For one the steam risks you getting scalded as pressure increases.

You will find your own best method, dont overfill it, start off pumping it slowly, dont lift mesh too high out of milk ( wasted elbow energy) and speed up the pumping action as you get the hang of it.

Experiment with different temperatures without risking scalds, if you use skimmed milk due to high cholesterol try adding half a teaspoon of a light olive oil to increase the fat, without spoiling the taste. If you normally use skimmed milk but fancy a treat add some single or double cream to it before you start to froth it.

If you want to float the froth on the coffee like an old style Irish coffee stir the liqueur or sugar in to the black coffee to increase its density, then pour your milk froth slowly, over the back of a spoon to just "float" it on top.

If you want to make patterns in the froth, then the first bit poured needs to mix slightly to acquire light brown colour, with the last bits staying pure white on top without sinking, use a cocktail stick to swirl the pattern.

There is no right or wrong way with frothing milk, just patience, experimenting, and lots of practise....

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great results if you don't mind putting the work in

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Unfortunately they break really easily in a family home...
*by A***D on 7 January 2026*

This is the best milk frother we have owned, very convenient to use in the microwave. The only issue is that they break really easily so after our 4th unit got smashed we went for a stainless steel one from another manufacture that is used on the hob. They just don't survive family life unfortunately... if you are a couple, or single, living in a minimalist life style the great. Wash by hand as easily cracked in a dish washer when loaded in a full machine. Don't bother keeping the lid 'just in case' when the jug breaks... just bin it, it never finds a use. I am sure I still have one somewhere.... enjoy the coffee.
