The magnetic will pick up heavy metal but it will not lock on at first sometimes.

After watching YouTube and seeing people use these for magnet fishing I had to try. It's a strong magnet and pretty much is perfect for any magnet needs. I have used this more as a tool then for magnet fishing. Anytime I work on my car or bike I have this near by to hold bolt and to hold things in place while I'm working. Like my alternator when I took the bolts out of it.this held it in place while I removed and replaced the bolts. Great tool but can't wait to use it more for magnet fishing this summer.

Right out of the box I used it in a area where I had cedar chips to try and locate a small clip that had fallen out of of cover over a exterior electrical outlet. It had accidentally fallen out and when blowing leaves off the apron to my garage it was in the leaves. I was about to replace the outlet and thankful I did not. A friend accidentally knocked my favorite rod and reel out my bass boat so that is my plan to use the magnet. I am 80 and did not want a magnet to locate something so heavy in the water that I could not lift it in the boat..
