Fun Facts and Incredible Photos
I bought this book for a 5 year old who is very much into spiders. The photos are incredible. The book is worth it just for that. There are some interesting facts throughout the book about spiders, beyond the typical. Like how spiders know up from down based on sight only. If they couldn't see they wouldn't know the difference. It's fun trivia to share with a youngster.

Spiders....Ugh!
Although I have never been a fan of spiders, this book is very well written and illustrated. I found that it has just the right amount of facts as to not bore the reader ( or child being read to ). I enjoyed the book. I hope that by reading this book to my grandchildren they will come to appreciate spiders and the role they play in our ecosystem.

Amazing Arachnids
My youngest daughter LOVES creepy crawlies, but my eldest hates them. As I didn't feel it was very festive to try and face her phobias, I thought it best just to share this wonderful book with the little one! We've shared a couple of Kay de Silva's picture books in the past, and as with the others, this is packed full of lovely, bright clear colour photographs and a great deal of fascinating facts too. Perfect for kids and their grown ups!

Not bad but one glaring error along with two small ones...
I picked this book because my daughter and I love most bugs and are fascinated with nature in general. We have several lovely spiders living around our home, one less due to a hungry Preying Mantis but that's another story (it was a writing spider, very like the one on your front cover) so I thought this book would be a nice companion while taking in the many kinds that abound. The glaring error in my title was that the information you have on the Brown Recluse is correct, but the photo you have is absolutely NOT a brown recluse. The one in your photo is very obviously in the center of an orb web and the Loxosceles reclusa makes more of a cobweb type and is well hidden (hence the name "recluse") It does not build webs out in the open, if it makes any at all. It is also more slender in the abdomen rather than fat, does not have the striped markings the one in your photo does and has a very striking marking on the top of the cephalothorax that resembles a violin, giving it the more common name "violin spider" or "fiddleback spider" (that particular specimen you have pictured is very commonly seen in the early to mid fall when the spiders that hatched in the spring reach their mature size. I've walked into many a web built across my porch and seen "guests" marked such as this one all over my yard.If you would like a photo of an actual brown recluse that I took myself (it was a big sucker too!!) I would be happy to share or you can google it. There are literally hundreds of recluse photos on the web (pun absolutely intended) which you could have used. For the small errors: There is a typo in the section "feeding". On one occasion, the word their is spelled "thier".In your "review this book" section at the end, the second question should properly read "TO WHOM would you recommend this book?" One should not end a sentence with a preposition.Other than these, this book is well written and informative for the age group to which it is targeted but can certainly be enjoyed by all ages. Once the major error is corrected, I would recommend this book very highly to anyone who has a child curious about the backyard jungle!

Great book
As a former second grade teacher, I think children of that age would love this book. But as a 71 year person reading it, I found it to be on my level also. The photos are great and the information was just enough to interest me in seeking more. I now know enough to decide that spiders might be quite interesting and not just worth an "Ooo a spider!" response.

I was utterly fascinated by the photographs. A sampling of very interesting spiders with behavioral notes, characteristics, and locations. Amazing!

Great book!
Bought this for my 7 year old for Christmas. He loved the pictures and was able to read it on his own. Very informative and educational.

Fascinating, informative, interesting little book
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this little book. There is so much information in it that I didn't know, fascinating things. Did you know the difference between spider webs and cobwebs? I didn't, but now I do! Did I say this book is fascinating? The photos in it are excellent, too.
