Review: Function vs Quality - I purchased and received the assist version of SportsRoyals power tower on Dec 16, 2023. I’m am writing this review 2 weeks after I assembled and started using it. Before purchase I had read most of the recent and top rated reviews and found them very insightful. But, I also noticed opinions varied based on expectation, fitness routine and stature. so, this is my 6 foot 225 pound moderately active opinion. The shipping box looked smaller than expected and weighted 86 pounds. The contents were tightly and securely packed. There is no user guide, and what many people have reported as terrible assembly instructions is really an exploded view of components. So, it helps with assembly but not well. I struggled until I realized the manufacture put an assembly video on desertcart. Short and not perfect but, using it in conjunction with the so-called assembly instructions, it was understandable. From the time I moved the shipping box into the house, assembled and cleaned up afterwards 4 hours had passed. I took my time, made no mistakes and used every part and fastener supplied. I’d call success. When looking at pictures that some reviewers have submitted, I noticed equipment structure was not always of the same design. Those reporting the most shake or flex where made with round tubular steel frames. Strong but hard to attach support arms to. The one pictured and I received was made with squared tubular steel and has an “H” style base. Not the triangular base some pictures show. Guessing the manufacture has recently re-designed the tower to address stability (Shake and Flex). The desertcart site says the tower supports 440 pounds, however, the so-called assembly instruction states 330 pounds. Could it be the result of the re-design? I can confirm that the top pull-up bar connection does creak under my weight as reported, but it doesn’t bother me or seem excessive or dangerous. I included a video. Notice there is minimal flexing. A result of the squared tubular steel I suspect. The steel is thinner than I expected which became noticeable during assembly. Do not tighten the bolts beyond tightly snug or the tubular steel will start to buckle-in. To be fair I have a tendency to over torque everything. I compared this tower with the commercial brand Hoist. There is no comparison in quality. The Hoist is many times stronger but also many times more expensive. Actually 4 times more with no assist. The questions is, when is strong, strong enough. The SportRoyal would never hold up in a commercial fitness center. But probably good enough for my home gym. I needed the pull-up assist to get my muscles started, and it functions as others have said. Not the smoothest movement but, it does what it’s meant to do. However, the seat is completely and totally in the wrong position for assisted dips. Online specifications say each of the 4 assist bands is 22 Lbs, 88 total. I tested this by placing two 45 pound weight lifting plates on the seat. This 90 pounds lowered the seat 75% of the way down. Removing 1 plate, 45 Lbs, raised the seat 75% of the way back up. So, I would call this spec accurate and not bad for functioning with bungees. Prior to purchase I could not figure out how the assist seat converted to a back support. So, I included the change-over in the video. Easy to do after a couple of tries. The manufacturer must have been concerned that the pulleys on the assisted seat bungee system would bottom out and get damaged. So, they included what they’re calling an anti-crash support. A rod that stick up from the H base frame. I included it in the video. Easy to remove or install but very dangerous. If you forget to remove it and you lose grip when the seat is in the backrest position, you could impaled yourself. In conclusion: The manufacturer designed a functional and well thought out power tower that gives me the exercises I wanted, accept for assisted dips. The build quality is consistent with what I expected for home equipment. The relatively low cost and light weight allowed me to try, lift and afford the purchase. I don’t expect the assist bungee system to last forever, but, it should last long enough until I don’t need it anymore. There are no other low cost towers with assist that I could find. Yes the top pull-up bar can be set at several heights but don’t expect it to be a regular adjustment, it’s too difficult for that. Also, the assisted seat travel length is fixed which makes the pull-up bar height dependent on it. All-in-all I would purchase this power tower again.
Review: After extensive research, looked like the highest-value Power Tower. No doubt, it's a front-runner. - I totally love this thing. First off, I should point out that I'm not a tall or heavy guy--around Tom Cruise size but lighter with less and worse hair. If you're a lot bigger maybe my review might be off some; however, it took me a long, long time to settle on this particular unit, and in the process of settling on it, I did extensive research. Even quite large guys seemed to be nearly universally completely satisfied with it. I like how easy it is to alter the height, as I'm using it in a garage under a garage door. It has every exercise that I wanted in a Power Tower, specifically, a pull-up/chin-up bar, an adjustable leg raise station, dip bars, and elevated push-up grab handles. Also, just as important to me, it isn't fitted out with any gimmicks or nonsense. This tower is simple, sturdy, and basic yet complete. I love that the pull-up/chin-up bar isn't attached centrally, but instead in two places, near each end of the bar. This makes it, in my case, an extremely solid overhead bar for attaching length-adjustable gymnastic rings, Fitarc neutral grips, a TRX suspension trainer, a Body Solid dog bone grip, and fat bar grips near each end. The bar length is such that it remains grabbable at every intended spot after storing only the neutral grips. The rings and the TRX hang backwards out-of-the-way behind the tower when not in use. For me, this power tower is totally solid and unshakeable, including when using a dipping belt (which takes Olympic weights) to increase my body weight. It does seem like a decent feature that the handles and armrests are tilted some on the leg lift station, not to mention, that it's super nice that the backrest is in-and-out adjustable. ( I especially love that I can move the backrest so far back and the handles so far forward that my back is well clear of the backrest while doing leg raises and similar stuff). So, reiterating, after reading seemingly countless possible power towers reviews (far more than just the desertcart ones) over many days, I felt very confident buying this particular power tower, and after a decent amount of use, my decision feels fully validated. For the money, I think it's a terrific value. In all respects, I love this thing and can't recommend it enough, especially when its price is considered versus its apparent quality and excellent functionality. As of today, after a couple weeks of use, I'm 100% totally satisfied.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What are the height, width, and depth dimensions of this when it is assembled?**
A: After three back/forth emails directly with Sportsroyal, they have finally admitted this advertising is misleading in that the actual top height of the handlebars is actually 87 inches - not the 92.7" one of their pictures clearly shows. For someone 6'2" tall, this means your feet will touch from a dead hang vs. not touching. Very misleading advertising and I hope they correct that image soon.

**Q: Why is the newer one $10 less than the older one?**
A: I’m sure the real answer would be quite complex, but do you really care?

**Q: How far apart (width) are the dip handles?**
A: Sportsroyals website says 27.3, although a previous seller stated 23 inches. I didn't buy this yet but I'd check out the dimensions on the Sportsroyals webiste.

**Q: Anyone else nervous the welds won't hold??**
A: Well, I’m not a welder but I looked closely at each and they seemed sound. The device is well constructed and seems to be well designed as well. While a weld could fail ‘catastrophically’ you’re most likely to see a ‘gradual’ failure over time. If you’re concerned, inspect the rack weekly to monitor the weld integrity and ensure the nuts and bolts are properly tightened to reduce stress and flex on the welds that could cause them to fail.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good quality but not a smooth assist
*by A***L on March 25, 2026*

First off the product was packaged extremely well and once put together it was very sturdy. I like how there is multiple different exercises I can accomplish on it. However the instructions are hard to understand. Meaning that yes it labels some of the screw parts you use within each step but not how many and the screw needed in the picture is so small that it is hard to see what direction it goes. On top of that just step 1 and step 2 in the instruction booklet don’t match the video in the product description. The instructions show to install the base bracket and base connector first but the video shows to do the virtual tubes with the base brackets first. Plus the instructions show to install the M10*65 screw with washer at the bottom of the base brackets and the nut on top of the bracket but the video shows them installing one facing up and one facing down and then the next clip of the finished connection in the video shows them all installed facing down. Very inconsistent. So the instruction booklet and the instruction video do not match at all right from the start. Some of the preinstalled roller wheels on the assist assembly roll while the others do not. In my case, 2 of the 4 wheels on the left pole rolls while the other 2 don’t budge. Same issue on the right pole. I tried losing up the screw/nut and tried some lubricant but didn’t resolve it. The assist is not smooth at all. It’s very jerky going up and it doesn’t lift you back to the top where you started. Something I’ll have to get used to as compared to the commercial model machines as the gym that lift all the way up and down with ease with you. All that aside it’s a very nice machine for the price. You get what you paid for. Will continue to use this in my current weekly routine.
