This thing looks good, but I'm still not used to it after I bought it.

Basic diamond setup.
This is a good beginner sharpening stone setup. The diamond grit holds up pretty well and it's easy to use. If you're new to sharpening you're going to want to use a sharpening guide otherwise the fast cutting diamond could ruin your knife. If you want a nice sharp edge this will give you a sharp edge with plenty of tooth for cutting. If you want to polished razor edge you're better off with wet stones. Would be great for a hunting knife or other knives that you have to touch up regularly.

Monocrystalline, base somewhat problematic
In the interest of full disclosure, as a trusted and unbiased amazon reviewer, I was able to request this product free of charge.Given the cost, this is a decent sharpening stone and seems to work well; however, there are a couple of things I don't like.I don't care for the base. The surface area that engages your counter top is not very large and this can make the unit slide a bit. While some may like the adjustment bars, I find them annoying and a bit clunky. I would much prefer to have a single piece of rubber that gripped the stone from all sides and with a continuous bottom that engages the counter top. This seems like it would be less expensive to make; I am not sure why the manufacturer opted for the other base. It seems doubtful to me that someone would re-use the base on a different stone although that is an option. As stated, the sharpening works well, but I believe the surface is monocrystalline. Monocrystalline diamond surfaces have the tendency to splinter over time. They are also cheaper to manufacture than polycrystalline surfaces which don't have this tendency and cut faster. To get polycrystalline, as far as I can tell, you have to move to a higher price point. My guess is that for most people this stone should work fine and hold up. If you are planning on using the stone very frequently on a daily basis then I would recommend looking for a polycrystalline stone.I can't tell for sure that this stone is monocrystalline but, in all likelihood, if it were polycrystalline this would be stated in the description. In summary, cost is good, it provides a large surface area, it's double sided, I don't care for the base.
